Help cas decide on a laptop for college...
« on: July 18, 2010, 01:45:38 PM »
So cas is heading off to K-State here in a month, and is still without a laptop.

Recommendations???

Money is no object. BSVC is helping me out on this one.

I would suggest mac if money is not an object. it "boosts" you up quite a bit. (and they seem to function pretty well or whatever)

Only get a Mac if you want be ridiculed by the CIS/CMPEN crowd (will destroy your life)

If you really want to turn heads, get one of these: http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/fully-rugged-laptop-toughbook-31.asp

We have them at work and I have brought one to class a few times, everyone is   when they see it, and battery lasts really really really really long.

If bulletproof computers aren't your style, I would say grab any laptop with an Intel ULV cpu.

It's kinda between Mac and HP. Nothing against Sony...

Looked here for some comparisons and this kinda stood out.

Like I said, get an Intel ultra low voltage cpu.  Then, buy a quality SSD to put in it (X25-M, Vertex 2, Agility 2 all have very good flash controllers and are very affordable)

This is the best pair of battery life and performance.  Not to mention, Windows 7 is the only OS with TRIM support.

Ok. So I have like no idea what you are saying.

Should have put a disclaimer that I really don't know jack about computers.

I'm not very good at computers but I'm pretty sure that's a POS especially considering you don't have to worry about cost.  Just my :twocents:

How good does your computer need to be to break into the schools system and change your grades?

I'd get one at least that good

you know why people were like  when you brought that thing to class?  here's a hint, it's not because they were impressed.

I would def. recommend a laptop with a long battery life and an hdmi port. along with the other usual things: large hard drive, ram, etc.

Agree.  Just make sure it's an HDMI out port.  HDMI in on a laptop is pretty much worthless.
