Best Barber In Manhattan
« on: July 07, 2010, 12:31:30 AM »
I'm looking for a new barber here in town and wanted some suggestions.  I've heard Campus Hairstyling and Wildcat Barber Shop are good but I'm not sure who to ask for there.

My haircut is about as simple as it gets but it's really surprising how badly people can screw it up.

Describe better both your simple haircut and the ways it's been screwed up.

I know what you're saying.  My head is basically shave with a 2 all round, with tapering at the edges.  EZ Peezy.  Nope, had my hair jacked up 6 ways from Sunday on multiple occassions.  That's why I've been going to the same barber for like 4 years.  I can barely understand her, but she is pretty BA.  Even trims the ol eyebrows when needed.

Can't taper and can't do the neck/hair line.  Believe me, I have a badass set of clippers that have been used once.  Once.

I just give myself a 'cut and then ask my buddy Q if he'll come in and shave the back of my neck for me.

In return I have to shave Q's back...

I may or may not be able to do it on my own.  However, I find getting my haircut relaxing, so I don't mind throwing down some bucks every two weeks.  Her rates are stupid cheap anyway.  Plus, I like when her little asian ass gives me a happy ending.  (Trims my eyebrows)

Randy at Wildcat Barber is the best, and a good guy. Has a lot of traveling advice as well.

I cut my own hair. It's the first step to living off the grid.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

Yeah, he's good if you like being hit on the entire time.

Roger or Dylan at Campus Hair Styling are both great. Roger is one of the most EMAW old guys you'll ever meet.

Campus is good peeps.  I think that Phil the barber is pretty GPC but if he isn't a piece of EMAWrica then I don't know what is.

Do NOT go to Roger. He'll talk your face off. He's like a lawyer, always asking questions he knows the answer to. His stories are brutal. You'll be stuck in that chair for an hour for a 10-minute cut.

And my god, he'll say "thank you" 100 times.

I don't know about good barbers now, but Newell was the best about 15-20 years ago.  RIP Newell.

This is gonna sound bad, but seriously.  Go to Junction City.  Find a barber shop on the north end that's ran by a little Asian gal.  (there's a few around)  Spend five bucks and you'll get the best, fastest haircut you've ever had, all capped off with a massage. (shoulders and neck)

Plus if you're a clippers guy, they typically use those vacuum clipper things so when you're done, there's no itchy neck.   :excited:

They do this at Campus Hair Style too, FWIW.
