Oline and play calling

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It goes beyond play calling, tho that's bad. The offensive scheme is straight backed and lacks the creative touch Avery's talents demands.

We beat KU....

I guess I'm content with a coach that wins 7-9 games a year even when we should do better?  eff it.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Anyone else pickup on Klieman dealing with some very bad personal/family health news?  His weekly press conference on Monday he hinted at it and he elluded to it again after the game. Something is troubling him and it sucks. Didn't he have a dizzy spell a few games ago?  I hope he is going to be OK.

Yes. Word is he’s been going through some stuff for awhile. Fairly serious. Not like Bill Self’s heart territory, but not fun. Not sure what the deal is.

Would make some sense though, because the culture/energy on this team seems mumped lately.

We need a new OC next year and new offensive scheme. Anyone in this thread saying otherwise is nuts. Watching Avery out there looking like he’s trying to solve a calculus equation before he decides what to do on every play is painful. His instincts seem coached out of him, injury or not. And btw, if he’s that injured, how ‘bout let him heal up.  I’d recommend people be more pissed. This is ridiculous.

Haven’t posted on this board forever, glad it’s still around! Cheers

Welcome back, and great post.

I’m personally just counting the days until Klein returns to lead us to the promised land.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Klieman's postgame was pretty revealing - seems like he's at a loss for what's happened the last two games. He does the right thing in accepting blame (I need to be better, etc), but really seems like he doesn't know where to go from here.

Sophomore slump. This is a building year, I finally excepted it tonight. I really didn't want to, but the proof is on film.  Name a KSU quarterback that didn't have growing pains.
He  is also nursing an injury, he can't juke like be could before CU. The straight up the gut run was the only time we saw his speed flash. I think the last interception was also tied to this injury, if you watch his torso as he tries to throw on the run.

This offense has him standing flat footed in the pocket looking down 1 of 2 reads. And often (IMO) it’s a single read where the ball has to get out on the 10 yard slant or dig. To small WR’s. I didn’t see him play in HS so I can’t comment on how well he threw. But in this offense he’s missed open receivers for big plays a dozen times. AJ is not a great thrower on the run that I’ve seen and maybe that in part due to his being injured. On the run he sails a lot of throws. It’s correctable, but I don’t know if this OC is a big help.

Spivey played really well yesterday and I’m glad he finally made a few catches. That fade wasn’t thrown particularly well, but 6’4” 230 is the guy to go get it. He’d also be a great option on the slants this OC seems so in love with.

Yes, these revelations provide a lot of context, and would seem to indicate that Riley/Wells and Klanderman are being allowed towork on their own direction rather than under a comprehensive framework of fully involved head coach. Failing upwards, so to speak. Just all speculation, though.

I think Avery is still hurt from CU game

There was a play that I think was supposed to be a run and Avery was running right and then tried to plant/cutback upfield and he kind of crumbled.  During the game I though he may have even had an injury on the play.  I'll have to find it on tape

Come on guys.  ASU played very conservative in the second half after they turned it over.  There's no doubt they could have scored another TD if they needed to.

Our defense is NOT good.

I don't know what to kick my dog about first:  Missing assignments, or slow players.

My conspiracy theory is that those closest to Klieman knew he wasn't going to be coaching much longer. Possibly related to whatever concerns he's alluded to after the last two games. And Klein was told to go get a year or two of experience somewhere else so he could come back as HC. Granted, I think something happened in the past month or so to speed up whatever timeline they were planning on.

they say it's something to do with a close friend but not family? the reaction to this almost seems like on the level of a death of a family member with how much this has affected him. strange stuff.

think it could be something with his health, kind of in line with what stevesie says
