I know a lot of folks cheered the civility of the debate Tuesday but IMO Walz should have shamed the hell out of Vance for what he did to the people of Springfield
He definitely failed in that department. It seemed mostly strategic, but there was at least one awkward exchange where you could barely even figure out Walz was talking about Springfield because he was dancing around calling out Vance.

I definitely think part of the strategy was to only be nice but I think it was a mistake.

Yeah I'm sure Vance's strategy was to be a much more calm, coherent, and believable liar than Trump. I think it makes more sense for them too

I saw a report that Trump was pissed about JD's performance. (Not sure I believe it, but the shoe fits.)

Also, when JD was asked if Trump won in 2020 a day or two after the debate, he didn't hesitate to answer yes. Very different from his debate answer.

"Yes" is very different from a "damning non-answer" imo.

I don't know. I would argue that what Vance did to Hatians in Springfield (and the rest of the Springfield community) is more sinister and harmful than Trump saying "Mexico is sending drug dealers and rapists", but Vance is more likely to get away with it because he presents as "nice".

On the flip side, Dems might need to come up with more non-abortion policy positions that are dramatically different from republicans if their opponent is "nice". With trump as the opposition, you mostly just need to be pro-abortion and sane and tell everyone you won't take their guns or do anything to help the environment. at least that seems to be the strategy
