I felt so bad for our receivers, we threw like 5 times a game.
NGL I think that's probably more true for most HS football than no. Having a kid that can throw the ball competently and consistently is a very difficult skill unless you're doing like slants and bubble screens all the time. My HS for most the time just remembering watching games even when we didn't have Arthur and Bryce Brown I think they threw the ball maybe a dozen times a game and it was more done to keep the defense honest and loading up the box than a super threat.
Right. There are some schools who utilize the — often extremely — short passing game out of a spread. But unless you have exceptional QB talent and can really teach pass blocking, it’s just really hard to be successful, especially at the smaller schools.
Something I noticed covering a decent amount of HS football is that inevitability, even those more finesse teams that find success eventually run into a ground and pound juggernaut that absolutely annihilates them.
There are obvious exceptions of course.
If I were a HS coach. I’d legitimately run a single wing at all but a very few select schools.
