they are total dogshit at the only sport that matters in america but we are elite high flyers in it so this causes them to lash out.

I think they will ultimately get a deal done, I think there are only a handful of teams left with a scholarship and the money needed to get him.  LSU is trying to get one of their incoming freshman to walk on I think to make room for Coleman but it seems like a long shot.

One thing I hadn't considered is how will scholarship caps work when there are nil deals worth more than scholarships? Why couldn't LSU just pay Coleman the nil value plus the cost of tuition?

There is still a rule that you can't go from scholarship to walk on without sitting a year. Our QB Knuth had to do that coming from Minnesota.

Yes, we do this in football. It's about to be grand opening/grand closing on this though as walk-ons are about to go bye bye.

i’m glad this dude signed with us but now that the dust has settled on exactly what college basketball has become, I hate everything about it. 

i’m not obtuse enough to not know that it’s really always been about the money, and now that money is just flowing to a different (better) place, but this view is very unappealing to me.

i can sense that me being a fan of college sports is officially on the clock.

I definitely understand that take. I feel it partly myself. One thing I’ve always loved about college is witnessing the growth of players overtime. I was especially looking forward to that with Dai Dai on this team. If we’re going to become a team that has players for one or two year max, that Will be disappointing.

I don't care that kids are getting paid but I will definitely miss watching players develop over a few seasons. I still think some coaches will figure out how to sell longer term stability and use it as a competitive advantage and others will follow. But it might take a while

I'm glad that players are less exploited than before. That said, for me, big money kinda sucks the heart, soul, and fun out of any sports league. Historically, the more that a league's focus shifts to maximizing profit, the less I've watched. I'm just not the audience for that super mass consumption stuff.

Yeah, happy they're getting paid, but it's like pro sports (for me). The distance (which was always a distance given all the perks they had vs a normal student) keeps getting greater from them being a student of the school.

Pro sports will have much more continuity now because so many players have multi-year contracts.

I do wish there could be a salary cap for players. Still make a good, fair amount of money, but limit the moving around. Now, every player that has a good season will be an unrestricted free agent.

if I was a fan of a league and especially so a team that will need a substantial amount of fans to support itself, i would be concerned about turning off its fans.

the tide will be turning away from this model and it’s going to have a compounding effect.
