MANHATTAN — At this time next week, Dominique Sutton plans to be living in his home state of North Carolina, holding his two young daughters in his arms.
It's a scene he looks forward to. After being separated from them for long periods while playing basketball at Kansas State, Sutton decided he needed to transfer closer to his kids before embarking on his senior season.
"Being around my kids every day, and having the chance to play in front of my family all the time sounds pretty good," Sutton said by phone Saturday. "I love them a lot. I want to be there for them, and be a part of their life. Seeing them grow up is something I want to do."
Had he returned to K-State, the 6-foot-5 Sutton would have been an important part of a team trying to improve on last season’s run to the Elite Eight. That's something he was looking forward to as well. Watching his teammates and coaches on TV next year will not be easy.
"I'm leaving behind everything that I helped build," Sutton said. "It's tough to say goodbye to all that, but sometimes other things come up that are just more important."
Sutton said he first thought about transferring at the end of his junior season, but kept those feelings to himself. It wasn't until he arrived in Manhattan for summer school that he informed coach Frank Martin he might transfer.
He said the coaching staff told him to weigh his options for a few weeks and give them an answer in July.
"They pretty much left it in my hands," Sutton said. "They said they were behind me whatever I wanted to do. I eventually told them I wanted to be closer to my family, so I left."
He said his teammates were shocked to hear the news.
"It was pretty random," Sutton said. "I don't think anyone suspected it. I didn't want to tell them, but it was something I had to deal with."
Sutton is still living in Manhattan, but plans to move home to Durham, N.C., in the next few days. He said his immediate family and girlfriend still live there.
Both he and Martin have said Sutton is leaving K-State in good academic standing, and he hopes to transfer to a Division I program and finish out his senior season in 2011-12.
Sutton is unsure what school he will end up with, but he is hoping to land with Wake Forest or North Carolina State.
"Whichever school feels like they can use a wing player like myself," Sutton said. "I'll pretty much find out once I get out there."
He says he will fondly look back on his time at K-State.
"There's no bad blood at all between us," Sutton said. "I'm leaving on a good note. I'm proud of what I did at K-State and what we accomplished as a team. Everything was good."

Wierd, if true.  You would has to be more than meets the eye.  I dunno though Sutton always seemed to march to the beat of his own drum.  Still think Frank ran him off?  Damn dude is gonna be 26 if he has to sit out a year.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Still think Frank ran him off?

I think Frank gave him an ultimatum and Dom didn't live up to it.

KU pal of mine gave me crap for all the stuff I said about Sherron's kids. Pointed out that Dom is heading home to care for his family which is more than Sherron has done for his 2 1/2 kids.

According to EVERYONE on GPC, it will be Jamar.

Jamar all of a sudden has an outside shot and is able to dominate other team's 3's.

 :jerk:

Seriously considering dropping the subscription.

If Jamar does take his place on the high light reel, I hope they show five Jamar's kicking that guy in the head.

Jamar is a better shooter than Dom.

Jamar is exactly 4% better at 3's than Dom per http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=3088&SPID=213&DB_OEM_ID=400&ATCLID=204833468

Did you like how well Dom shot from deep this year?  If so, you will like Jamar's outside shot.

His 3P% was only a little better than Dom's because he had more than 3 times as many attempts, tard.

Yep, that is how percentages work.

Jesus, where to begin.  First off, Jamar doesn't shoot 4% better, he shoots 4 percentage POINTS better.  Which is significant.  Secondly, Dom shot 15 3 pointers, making 5 to give him a 33.3% completion percentage...I think he made 3 of those in one game.   Jamar took enough 3 pointers to make his completion percentage relevant (unlike Dom), and he was the 3rd best 3 point shooter on the team.  Anyone that thinks that Jamar and Dom are equivalent outside shooters is a freakin Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) or didn't watch KSU play bball this year.

Sutton had a really bizarre 2 game stretch against NU and OU where he went 5-7 from 3.  The rest of his career at K-State he made 6 out of 36.

I do think Dom will be missed though.

I don't think his leadership was ever really even relevant.  Dude was too much of a headcase for that.  Defense and experience will be missed but not offense, so maybe we won't really miss him that bad.

His ability to be our primary defensive stopper except when Frank switches Pullen to his man because he's sucking will be missed, for sure.

this.  Jeezus Pullen was unrealy that game.  Don't get me wrong, I like Dom and think we will miss some things, but to say he can't be replaced is just wrong.  I'm not saying we are better without him, but we CAN be.

Akeem Wright vs Dom Sutton

Thoughts?

Akeem Wright was the better asset to the program, obviously.  However, Dom could sometimes do cool dunks and stuff.

Guess I'd say Akeem, if only for his ball handling ability.

Dude, you can't compare the teams Akeem played on with the E8 team of last year.  Just substitute Wright for Sutton on last year's team and ask yourself if that team would be better or worse.  Both were very good defenders with limted offensive skill sets.  I think that Akeems passing and ball hanling abilities may give him a slight edge.

Akeem could barely dribble. I'm with you on everything else though.
