It seems like wacky cares quite a bit about a potential name change. More than anyone!

This reply is not really directed at you, but I have policy of not quoting certain people, so quoting you will do.

I actually would venture to guess that I know more about the history of the Chiefs than just about anyone on this blog. The rumor that they were named after the mayor is in my educated opinion not to be taken seriously. I have no issue with the name Chiefs. It's just the Native American cosplaying that I find distasteful. It's gauche.

Live look at the mayor, whom we all agree is the true impetus for the Chiefs' branding, circa 1963!

Anecdote: I was at the tribal casino north of topeka back when it was harrah's with a big group and one of the girls' dads was there.  He and I were playing blackjack and at one point he said something like "hit me, chief."  I'm confident that "chief" was interchangeable at that moment with "boss," "bro," "bud," etc. at that moment but he said "chief" and the dealer was native.  I was focused on the cards but it must've been a thing because his daughter who was standing behind us later told me she thought it was awful based on the dealer's reaction.

So yeah, change it to the kansas city bosses, until enough fans do offensive italian mafia dress-ups that they force another change.

Chiefs are my 2nd favorite team to root for behind the cats. I don’t need woke leftists in their 40’s coming into my life to ruin 38 years of fan ship, because they got some overnight wokeness, because they lost an election to Trump. You are correct. Tread on me, sir!

Trying to act offended by the Chiefs name, is a new bar blue anon is trying to set, because they’re bored as hell with their lives. After electing the worst rated president of all time! Until I have a MIR version of a Native American poster who comes in here to claim racism as a poster, I call bull crap on it all.

Chiefs have gotten in front of it better than other Native American mascot teams by partnering with Native American groups, but they will most likely face pressure soon to change their name from sponsors. They'll end up changing, sooner than people think.

Come on man, lol

You need a Native American to tell you they think it's racist before you think any Native American could think the chop is racist? Even on the chiefs lame ass page on their website, trying to justify the imagery, they admit that some natives absolutely think their imagery is racist.

Like any community, American Indians maintain a diverse set of views on a range of issues including our franchise name and other aspects of our game-day presentation. There will be members of the American Indian community who feel we have not done enough and others who believe we have gone too far in the changes we have enacted. To expect homogeneity from any community or culture is wrong, and we certainly understand and respect the members of the American Indian community who hold differing perspectives.

They should change their name to the Wildcats, so people start saying "cats" instead of "chiefs" during the national anthem at our games. And also because the team won't have to ban fans from wearing home made wildcats gear at the game they go to to cheer on the wildcats.

if they do that I want KSU to change their name to the "Cats". Not "Wildcats", just "Cats". I want this to happen.

They named the team after a city mayor crying out loud.

This is true, but even a Chiefs apologist like me can recognize that they aren't like, doing Mayory stuff. Kind of goofy to be like "but we're the Mayors really!" We aren't the Mayors, come on.

But the Chiefs is fine. Also, neither Spracs or Wacks get a vote

yeah, the mayor bity is an excuse for the dumbs.  You can't talk about H. Roe while you ride around on warpaint banging some drum and doing the chop.  come on.

that being said, I give zero craps about any of it.  AS said earlier in the thread, the change is coming.  I dont care to be the agent for it

Come on man, lol

What part of my post was lol? Saying that The Chiefs have worked to partner with Native American groups (they have) or that they’ll change once the pressure from sponsors heats up (it will soon)

Bunch of idiots in here that don't like the tomahawk chop don't realize it's a mayor's tomahawk chop.  What a dumb argument.

It'll all be gone in time.  Wacky can be a martyr.  Everyone wins (including the future not-Chiefs if they still have Mahomes).

I’m a little surprised at how much resistance teams like Washington have put up with name changes. There are plenty of positives in changing it up every few decades. Get some extra engagement from the fan base, sell new merchandise, roll out some new uniforms.

We’re totally ok with teams relocating to different parts of the country. The Chiefs have already changed their name and the sport isn’t even that old for goodness sake!
