I think I did like a 60 and 10. wild that anyone can look at current republicans and democrats and think they are equally good (or bad, or neutral) but everything else SD did was reasonable IMO and not much different from me (aka it's reasonable)
I mean, I have good and bad republican and dem friends/fam pretty equally. If it was elected pubs and dems I’d probably be 0 and 10 (Ben Sasse carrying a lot of water with that 10).
Yeah I was thinking about the politicians from each party but I suppose the Republicans I choose to associate with are ok. But there's a bit of self selection with who I associate with.

You choose who to associate with based on party affiliation?  That's wild.  Also how do you know their party affiliation?

But I'm saying that any Republicans that end up in my social circle aren't the shitty ones, because I prefer to not hang out with people I think are shitty. So if everyone looks at their republicans and democrats and libertarians they hang out with they should be people you would like and would maybe lead to a 50-50 favorable split on this question if you ignore the actual politicians and only look at their social circles.

Also I'm not going to be friends with racists or anti-LGBTQ folks or anti vaxxers, which are overwhelmingly republican. WILD

I also loved Family Ties, but I definitely didn't get the Alex P. Keaton as a conservative, even though it was central to the show. I was 7 when that show started. Still know the theme song tho.

"What would we do baby, without us? Sha la la la."
the parents were ex hippies and Alex was just rebelling to his upbringing like a typical teenager iirc

You wouldn't be friends with an anti-vaxxer?  What if you became friends with someone and then found out they didn't get the vaccine?  Cut off?

I think the potential to have awkward dinner conversation with a conspiracy theorist is relatively high. And yes, anti vaxxers are conspiracy theorists.

Yeah probably, depending on their rationale. I talked about vaccination with all my close friends though so it wasn't like a surprise. I have some family who are anti vaxxers who I won't cut off but I definitely think less of.

Yeah. Or like, would I be comfortable letting this person watch my kids? Would I trust them to give good advice? Could I have an intelligent conversation with them and take what they say seriously? Because in general, I question the overall judgement and intelligence of anti-vaxxers and I don't need to be"friends" with dumb risk takers. Or racists or people who don't think gays deserve equal rights.

But I still might never talk to them again. :dunno:

Yes. Same, and gE is probably the only group of friends and acquaintances I have that I’d be considered right of center amongst.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

i work with a ton of unvaccinated people.  not sure if all would be considered "antivaxxers", but for sure some would.

anyways, i get along fine with them.

Not from a (terribly) small town but agree with this still. Cutting these people out of my life based on their beliefs seems anti-productive. I have friends that held naive or ignorant beliefs that have absolutely come around. If I had just cut them out of my life completely I think there's a good chance they would still be just as naive and ignorant as they were when I first met them.

That being said, I scored "Establishment Liberal"

I think this is very good, but would you continue to be friends with them if they were like, still calling people f*ggots in front of you?

Most of my best friends from college are pretty left and it's pretty satisfying to have other things in common other than politics.

Even if we never discuss politics, I don't have much in common with MAGAs overall. I'm not going to be hanging out with them for plenty of other reasons.

You guys have mixed up the term of "MAGA" so much, it's not even funny anymore. Most of my lefty friends in college, used homophobic slurs (Knowing I had a gay uncle), and act like they're huge LGBTQ+ advocates now. MAGA is pretty much anything that doesn't fit your 2022 agenda these days and that might be more hateful, than how someone votes every 4 years.

Majority of my family is what I would describe as traditional republican. Not MAGA, pro-vax, etc. Local news watching republican v. Fox News watching. I think very highly of almost all of them. Much higher than my few leftist relatives but they are all abusive/strung-out losers unrelated to their politics. We also have some full blown MAGA, openly bigoted, anti-vax downgrades in the tree. I don’t think either side are really representative of their political party in general but just anecdotal to me. There are a lot of republicans and dems that have much more in common with each other than the noisy representatives of each extreme.
