https://mondoweiss.net/2020/05/atlantic-editor-who-promoted-erroneous-conspiracy-to-gin-up-iraq-war-bewails-arab-propensity-to-conspiracy-thinking/

Quote
Jeffrey Goldberg is very busy as editor of The Atlantic so it’s understandable that he trots out old reporting in a piece denouncing Donald Trump as a peddler of conspiracy theory for questioning the official coronavirus death toll.

But look at the old reporting: Back in Cairo in 2001, an Islamist told Goldberg that Arabs didn’t execute the strike on the World Trade Center. So Goldberg is back to his old beat, telling us what a scary neighborhood Israel is in.

The Middle East is a cauldron of conspiracy, a place where the most bizarre theories often have real policy consequences.

But credulity is hardly confined to the Middle East, and Goldberg doesn’t have a right to lecture anyone on the topic. Famously, in the runup to the Iraq war, Goldberg’s own credulity contributed to the rush to a bad judgment. He propagated a few conspiracy theories that turned out to be bogus, and disastrously so.

Other than whaddabouting

Mondoweiss won’t stop telling the truth—even when others turn away.
In a media landscape where critical coverage of Palestine is shrinking, Mondoweiss stands firm—fiercely independent, movement-led, and unwavering in our commitment to documenting Palestinian experiences. Our journalists on the ground in Palestine and the U.S. work tirelessly to bring you stories mainstream outlets too often ignore. With each article, we resist silence and amplify voices fighting for freedom and justice.

But this work doesn’t happen without you. As the year comes to a close, we need to raise $321,000 to keep our coverage strong, our reporters protected, and Palestinian stories at the forefront. And right now, your donation will go twice as far, thanks to matching funds that will double every gift!

Your support ensures that Mondoweiss remains a lifeline for those seeking truthful, accountable reporting. Your donation fuels research for educators and activists, strengthens a vital platform for Palestinian voices, and safeguards the historical record for future generations.

If you believe independent media has a responsibility to expose the truth and challenge entrenched narratives, we ask for your support today. Please make a donation—monthly if you can—and help us meet our year-end goal. Every contribution matters, and every voice counts.

Thank you for standing with us in truth, solidarity, and resistance.

LMAO

Now you’re losing your minds because one dude got some texts??

Maybe so, but I won't be concerned until he goes into ICU and doesn't tell anybody and doesn't set up any sort of back up or engage the normal chain of command and fails to inform the CinC that he might be indisposed for a bit

I would view that as a positive development. He needs to get help and he needs to go off the radar to do that.

The craziest thing about it is that once upon a time, and maybe even now, the Atlantic was full of huge #neocons

Yes. That is the craziest thing about it.  :dubious:

Look, I get it. #blueanon-neocon/#neocongE demands strict operational security when we start blowing the crap out of things.

So you guys are right, this administration needs to do better.

At 8:27, a message arrived from the “Pete Hegseth” account. “VP: I understand your concerns – and fully support you raising w/ POTUS. Important considerations, most of which are tough to know how they play out (economy, Ukraine peace, Gaza, etc). I think messaging is going to be tough no matter what – nobody knows who the Houthis are – which is why we would need to stay focused on: 1) Biden failed & 2) Iran funded.”

I think installing terrorists in Syria and Tarmac cash have been well documented for quite some time, Lick

Agree that that is the craziest part of our highest government officials discussing top secret plans on group chat and accidentally inviting a well known reporter.
