Right, basically joining something that basically will guarantee them not being invaded seems prudent from their end.

I know you think this is a gotcha but dax has answered yes to this question a few times before when he's trotted out this ridiculous hypo that's completely divorced from reality. I believe he even said the US would be justified in a preemptive nuclear strike.
