Do you guys know how the famous "battle of the bulge" got its name?

It had nothing to do with the fighting on the ground.
Little Big Horn too

Our air aces called it “big horn and 2 really perfectly flown symmetrical round horns”

The energy poverty rate in Europe is rising rapidly.  Energy bills are as much as 97% higher year over year in some countries.

Can’t help but wonder if opinions about Putin’s failure in part rubs off on MAGA.

"The Biden administration won’t give Ukraine advanced drones despite pleas from Kyiv and a bipartisan group of members of Congress, a reflection of the limit of the kinds of weaponry Washington is willing to provide for Ukraine’s defense," The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Probably a wise move, given that Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe, and bereft with various gangs and oligarchs selling weapons on the black market now and for years and years prior.

Flying Spaghetti Monster only knows what they were doing when we had exactly zero monitors in country tracking the weapons we sent them.

Gen Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, just said the Pentagon believes 100,000 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine.

In 20 years (1955-1975) the US lost 58,000 soldiers in Vietnam.

I believe he estimated similar casualties for Ukraine. It has been an incredibly violent conflict.

Is that the same Chairman of the JCS who assured us that the Afghan Army would stand firm against the Taliban?

No idea if accurate and while that is enormous by American standards (this being a greater pace of military deaths than either WW2 or WW1), it's a drop in the bucket compared to Soviet standards (2ish million in WW1 and 9ish million in WW2). That region has always had a different viewpoint on military casualties that's persisted over centuries.

They also like to fly the Black Sun/Nazi Eagle flags on their tanks and bmps.

Sad

Russia really can't afford it - this says that they really didn't fully recover from WWII.  Also mentions that Ukraine is in the same position, maybe more so even, but will have the support of the western world to lean on.

Really, all a great gamble to build a legacy with a bang at the total risk of killing his country in a wimper.

Withdrawal may be turning into a rout / bloodbath. Sounds like that scene from the movie Stalingrad when the soviets are trying to cross the Volga under artillery fire.

it does sound like ukrainian artillery is teeing off at the congregations by the river, but my guess is russia got most of their better units out already and these are the fairly useless mobilized troops left to do the dying.

no details but i've been seeing hints all day on twitter that is was a pretty rough day for ukraine around donetsk and bakhmut.
