It's a crap situation, and many will be forced to sacrifice.

Certainly Europe is filled with people with many different view points. However, I suspect that there are a great many who see Russia has an enormous threat to their security, and ultimately worth some sacrifice vigorously resist Russia. Specific examples include Finland and Sweden who for the first time in eleventy bajillion years openly said "please let us into NATO" and "Russia go eff yourself."

Russia is not allowed to consider encroachment on the borders by the EU and NATO a threat . . . #neocons/#neocongE (this particularly holds true even when the United States and NATO help prosecute a coup d' etat in Ukraine that removed a democratically elected albeit Russian leaning Ukrainian president)

Lots of videos of Ukrainian soldiers being killed, and Ukrainian military equipment being wrecked (which is why they're asking for billions of dollars of more equipment).

Now the wives of military personnel missing are marching in the streets in Ukraine because their mega corrupt government keeps lying to them..

In some NATO countries, stockpiles of weapons are dangerously low, and the industrial economics and even the infrastructure is facing a massive uphill economic and logistics battle in order to re-fill the dwindling stockpiles.
