if this is remotely close to accurate, i think the only explanation is that after the initial breakthrough, a good chunk of the russian forces in the north more or less refused to fight.

i don't think a thinly defended front because kherson was reinforced is sufficient.

If trends hold, this will be the biggest development in the war since the Battle of Kyiv ended last spring. More and more reports of Team Putin/Tucker getting run off the battlefield.

the fun explanation for that would be that russian troops have been abandoning territory faster than ukraine forces are able to occupy it.
