Putin should retreat and avoid further suffering, he is only delaying the inevitable at this point.

Nobody has frostbite, wtf

it's not cold enough for anyone to have frostbite. most likely they were referring to trenchfoot, which can happen when it's cold but not cold enough for frostbite

It's a translation so I took it to mean that they just didn't have the supplies etc to keep warm just like food, water ,gas ,armor etc.

Like when I worked in construction and it was kinda cold but not super cold and snow was melting and mud everywhere the moisture would eventually soak through your boots and make you have cold wet socks and it rough ridin' sucked big time. Also your boots would never dry out because it isn't warm enough so first thing in the morning you slip your foot into a cold moist boot and hate your life.

Imagine this but also your coworkers are being burned alive in tanks and your boss keeps getting shot.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/22/europe/amanpour-peskov-interview-ukraine-intl/

I think it would be good if people thought through the implications of this.

On the one hand, to me this is kind of a nothing burger. Given the current contours of the war, there is nothing that would directly lead to this. Russia has definitely not been successful thus far, but it is very difficult to imagine they will not ultimately prevail. Perhaps not with the victory they had imagined, but a win.

On the other hand, it is a stark reminder that by pumping weapons in to Ukraine you do open up a very dark pathway to further NATO involvement. Nevermind the fact that this is a pretty cavalier attitude to take as even the Lindsay Grahams and Ben Sasse's of the world do not want US boots on the ground.  So they are willing to fight to the last Ukranian. I was very glad that Poland's idea to transfer Mig's was dismissed immediately by the US military, but if NATO is not satisfied with just watching Ukranians die, then nuclear brinksmanship does become more of a real possibility.

I have no idea what would happen if Putin were to be removed from power, but toppling Putin is a hell of a lot more dangerous than Gadhafi.

It is undoubtedly true that Putin invading Ukraine is the best thing that ever happened to Ukranian Nazis. I put that on Putin, but sure, arming Nazis is pretty dumb too.

I will start worrying when US intel says something, as they definitely called it on Ukraine. But given how things are going in Ukraine, that seems more like face saving boasting.

They're in no position to do anything now. But this stuff helps get some of their people in the right mindset for what could come in the future. And it's been a trend.

sorry to circle back to frostbite talk

but...

looking back it seems that in the last 20 days or so there were only 2 that didn't have low temps well below freezing (and a handful that never made it above freezing)

This thread is severely lacking on an explanation of how cold it must be before one can be frostbitten.
