I think Mearsheimer has it backwards and the NATO stuff happened because Putin was thought to want to re-annex former Soviet states, which is a big no-no as we have seen.

The whole "existential threat" to Russia is like the biggest rough ridin' bullshit excuse, too. He invaded because he wanted to annex. You know, the usual reason for invading.

Russia seems a lot bigger than Ukraine. Don't understand why Russia sees it as a threat. Or at least a threat that should be approach by waging a catastrophic war on Ukraine. His points about US regime change efforts around the world seem fair.
