I don’t think it makes a ton of sense at this point to throw more weapons in to modern day Verdun.  What is the point? There is no Ukrainian offensive to speak of so reclaiming land inch by inch at the cost of tens of thousands of people is definitely not rational behavior we should be encouraging. But even if we wanted to, where are the shells? Maybe we can buy some shells from North Korea?

As far as US foreign policy credibility goes, this is a pretty funny gambit.

Of course he was forced to apologize and Ukraine still maintains that they will not stop until even Crimea is back under Ukrainian control. But normal people can dismiss this as fantasy and start the hard work of finding an end to this conflict. The idea that NATO should go to war with Russia to liberate Crimea is of course dismissed out of hand when said plainly, but that is Ukraines position. Until we can dispense with this kind of talk I don’t see how any further steps can be taken to bring Ukraine in to NATO.
