The problem is I don't see the RNC elites coalescing around anyone and trying to freeze out Trump and I think Christie is too vain to do it on someone else's behalf.

No, I think he will, unlike Ted, Christie took all of trump's crap talking personally and he seems to legitimately hate the dude. The issue is exactly what you presented, the rest of the republican field, like the dems in '20 are cucked and will fall in line behind trump. Again, like Biden in '20 the money and therefore the power is behind trump, this thing is over. The only thing stopping us from trump v. biden 2.0 is one of them dying or going to jail. an individual can only contribute $3300 to a given politician (for a given election).  so big money donated to his superpac.  it's his campaign that is (maybe) running out of money, not the superpac.

but you're right that some of the donors that backed desantis early are concerned that they picked a dud and have stopped giving.  remains to be seen if desantis can right the ship and get the money flowing again, if the donors will conclude resistance is futile and fall in behind trump or if they settle on a different champion as the annointed trump killer.
