my current view is that it is not a winnable race.  it's good for the texas democratic party that beto is willing to martyr himself in their service, but it's bad for him personally.

assuming he wants to hold public office again, waiting until texas becomes more democratic and the national environment is more conducive to democrats winning before running.

he lost his senate race to ted cruz so, as seemingly popular of a candidate as he is, i think it just goes to show how much pubs outnumber dems in the lone star state. i think the only way beto would have had a shot at gubnah is if texas would have had major power outages 2 years in a row. FTR all those fixes that abbott promised after the 2021 death freeze...unsurprisingly the state was basically no better off coming into this winter season. ERCOT did make a point to say "pretty please can everyone try to not use as much electricty?" when inclement weather was rolling in but greg just lucked out that there wasn't a similarly devastating event 2 years in a row.

Also FTR this exact same thing happened in 2011. Shockingly, nothing happened at all and people just kinda forgot about it until it happened again 10 years later and they were no better off.

I don’t really see confronting the Texas governor for failing to do anything to curtail gun violence or use of assault weapons to be “grandstanding” under these circumstances.

We’ve seen the NRA playbook “now is not the time to talk about doing something” so many times we’re numb to it.

#blueanon clings to the style points and needs to feel like someone is doing something.   A committee, a working group, somebody writing a paper, an emotional outburst that solves nothing.  That's what #blueanon thrives on.   For Beto it was about suburban mom votes, and rallying the base.   If he's elected, he'll go to DC and talk a lot and do nothing.   There's just as many blow hard do nothings on the right as well.
