Mrs. SB pointed out that if the Lynch Mob turns into the Lunch Mob our players can just go around after every play doing that celebration move where they mime eating soup or cereal or whatever it is.

After the play Stubblefield made, he did the stink finger sniff thing. I actually really like that and hope we do more of it.

The first time I had heard the term was from Deshawn Fogle at pre 1995 Holiday Bowl pep rally.  I remember him explaining to the crowd that was what the defense was referring themselves as.

It’s an unsayable reference to once a specific defense and now a concept.

Mob is just super cringe nowadays. I always liked Blackshirts. How about Lynchshirts?

The Blackshirts and the Lynchshirts can race to see which one is back the soonest each year.

I enjoy that it’s “problematic.” Makes it more fun tbh. Call it whatever you want, I’ll be throwing it up forever.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Wichita Eagle archive has a reference dating back to Sept. 15, 1991 (the day after beating Idaho State 41-7). I don't have a subscription to see the full article, but the sentence in the article is:

"The defense lived up to its self-titled nickname, 'Lynch Mob.'"

I once saw a bunch of mimes doing a flash mob, maybe our fans can start dressing in mime outfits when watching the flash mob fire and ice defense

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Quote
MANHATTAN Tony Williams, Kansas State's 295-pound defensive lineman, had just fought off his block when he looked up and saw the ball bouncing around in the end zone.

The ball was huge, bigger than it had ever looked. Williams got excited. He jumped on it.

Touchdown.

It didn't matter much to the outcome of the game. K-State was already well into its 41-7 victory over Idaho State on Saturday night at KSU Stadium.

Who cared? Williams was giddy.

"I jumped on it, then everybody jumped on me," he said. "That was my first touchdown. Ever. I didn't play football in high school until my junior year. I was in the band, actually. I played tuba.

"Anyway, I was just trying to get away from everybody. I was a little out of control when it hit me. Touchdown. Six points. I high-stepped and kicked my feet. I wanted to dance."

It was that kind of day for the Wildcats.

This was more like it.

Interception, touchdown. Interception, touchdown. Interception, touchdown. Fumble, touchdown.

And K-State was the one getting the touchdowns.

When you schedule a small college team, you're supposed to do this. And it was a relief after last week's one-point win over Division I-AA Indiana State.

This time, K-State blew out a bad team instead of just squeaking past one.

"We had a lot of fun," said K-State safety Jaime Mendez, who was embarrassed by the way the defensive backs played last week. "We were looking at each other eye to eye."

The Wildcats started the season 2-0 for just the third time since 1975.

The defense lived up to its self-appointed nickname, "Lynch Mob."

Michael Smith broke the school's career receiving record. He had three catches to give him 129 for his career and passed Dave Jones, who caught 127 from 1966 to 1968. Freshman tailback J.J. Smith ran for a 72-yard touchdown on the first carry of his career.

And fans were having so much fun they found time for a little heckling, making fun of the name of Idaho State linebacker Mahe Liava'a pronounced Maha Liavaha.

Everything seemed to work.

But then there were the always sobering words of K-State coach LHC Bill Snyder, who calmly told Williams after the touchdown, "Good job, Tony."

Williams said, "You know how Coach Snyder is."

Coach, was this week a little more fun?

"Well, I'm not quite as angry as I was last week," he said. "I was pleased we came back in the second half and put some points on the board. But for the second week in a row, we lacked poise. We made some silly mistakes."

Ten penalties. A botched reverse. And a fumble.

But that was it.

The Wildcats went 71 yards for a touchdown on their first drive of the game. Quarterback Paul Watson scored on a 4-yard run.

Top-Rated Redmen Hold Off Savages, 15-6

DURANT - If it isn't one Derrick, it was another Derrick

as top-rated Northeastern State survived No. 11 Southeastern State's upset football bid 15-6 before a homecoming crowd of 4,100 at Paul Laird Field Saturday.

Both NSU's touchdowns came on "home run" plays in the

first half.

Northeastern trailed the Savages in the opening minutes

as Southeastern went 66 yards in seven plays on their first possession.

The Redmen's Derrick Moore and Derrick Jacobs then turned in touchdown scampers of 35 and 71 yards respectively to

put Northeastern on top.

Moore on a fourth and one situation at the Southeastern 35 made good use of his offensive line's blocks and reached the end zone to forge a 6-6 deadlock with 1:55 left in the first quarter.

"I thought we had Moore hemmed in," said Southeastern

coach Morris Sloan. "Instead, we got blocked out it."

Then Jacobs, a 5-9 tailback from Mansfield, La., took a screen pass from quarterback Joe Volentine to scamper 71

yards to score.

The victory boosted NSU's record to 8-0 overall and 3-0 atop the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference.

There wasn't a moment of relaxation for the Redmen until David Winchester kicked a 28-yard field goal with 12:42

left.

The Savages came out passing from the outset as quarterback Richie Gandy completed four passes for a total 50 yards,

the last a 17-yard connection to Eric Knight for a touchdown, 2:49 into the battle of NAIA Division I titans. A bad snap from center prevented the extra point attempt.

Southeastern is the first team to connect on a TD pass against NSU this season.

That was to be a hint of things to come from the Savages as NSU's "Lynch Mob" held Southeastern to 79 yards on

the ground.

Each team was guilty of two fumbles and two interceptions.

"I thought 17 points would win this game," said NSU coach Tom Eckert afterward.

Moore, the second best rusher in NAIA Division I, carried 27 times for 135 yards. Volentine followed with 17 carries for 114 yards.

Volentine had runs of 61 and 57 yards to get the Redmen out of poor field position. His first scamper came late

in the third quarter setting up Winchester's field goal

and his second resulted in a fumble after being hit at the Southeastern five.

The Savages came out in the final half the way they started the game. Gandy mixed his passes of 7 and 15 yards to Tony Brown with the running of Corey Ransom to drive the Savages to the NSU 35. On a fourth-and-nine situation Southeastern elected to throw a pass instead of a field goal attempt.

The pass fell incomplete.

"If I had that to do again," said Sloan, "I'd have tried a field goal. I knew I was still in the game."

The Redmen dealt Sloan his worst loss - by nine points - in his three years at the Southeastern helm.

The Redmen had a total offense of 439 yards to 209 for Savages.

Northeastern head coach Tom Eckert welcomes next Saturday's open date.

"We're bruised up now, and we need to get well," said

Eckert who lauded the play of Volentine. "He's a great

player who gets things done."
