it looks 1991 was also the first year for the Northeastern Savages to name their defense the Lynch Mob.

Fans could take out their bottles of DL Mob and pour it on house salads provided by concession stands, when our defense is running ramshod over their offense.

Southeastern was the Savages (now the savage storms)

Northeastern was the redmen, with green as the school color (now the river hawks)

Oklahoma schools, man

I taught at a school where 'Savages' was the mascot.  (It's still the mascot)

pretty sure that it's discussed in the Great Mark Jannsen's book "They said it couldn't be done".  People questioned it but "the black players came up with it"

That's where Dennis Rodman went to college, he was a Savage.

I met Rodman in a bar in the middle of the Denver airport last year. He was traveling with that plastically enhanced girlfriend of his. I wanted to ask him what North Korea was like but chickened out as my flight was called and I had finished my whiskey.

He's supposedly a nice dude away from cameras, you missed out on an all-time story.

William “T” Price coined the term in the 1991 pre-season. CJ Masters may have had some input.

So obviously just because I am a senior  citizen doesn't mean I know crap about the origins of our Defenses chosen nickname, but surprised it's traced back to 91.

Isn't there a thread on here about the origins of PGRTR?  Thinking Erick Hickson with inspiration from George Clinton?

You're thinking LRWTP and I think it was actually pissclams, not George Clinton.

Saw more players throwing up the lynch mob this game than I've seen since '03. Normally I do not condone such bravado early on, but at this point, WTF not.

My mother-in-law was lamenting how "cocky" the players seem this year. "Just make the play and move on, fellas."

Are Smith Center still the Redmen?

Perhaps it's own thread this was a drive topic to DFW last week...
Shawnee Mission Norrh

Atchison
Redmen now Phoenix
Hiawatha

I have a hunch that Smith Center will be toward the back of the line when it comes to changing the name of their mascot.

St. Paul asked an OK tribe if they found their nickname and mascot, Indians, offensive and they replied no.

LO&L. That’s soooo millennial. I mostly hang with zoomers, who love dropping velvet rope references in a computer voice. Im not surprised you’re not familiar with it, since it’s tiktok thing. Just enjoy your flaming hot Cheetos and kardashians, old timer
