my first car. wasn't anything special and had a billion miles on it, but i loved it and thought i was the hottest crap because it was a lexus. then i wrecked it within a month which devastated me. pretty ugly car. or maybe more boring than ugly. whoever designed it had a boner for rectangles.

oh hell yeah I bet that rode like a dream

Haha, I bet it rode like a used Toyota.  Not that it matters to a teenager that's just trying to get some trim.
I had a 1996 Toyota Avalon for years and it felt like a lincoln

My parents had an 86 model (WITH A SUNROOF) and an 89 model, both had the icemaker/cooler. You actually sit on the engine so to put new oil in you would lift up the driver's seat.

The 89 model was the first vehicle I drove and I will always have a soft spot for it. I took out all the seats and turned it into my lawnmowing vehicle where I would load it full of mowers/weedeaters.

That thing had so much wrong with it but just kept running until around 2010 when it had 280,000 miles. The key broke off in the drivers side door so to unlock it we would keep the window behind the seat cracked, just slide it open, reach your arm in and pull up the lock. The vehicle would also start with any key as long as you could fit it in the ignition...you could even use a screwdriver!

Unfortunately my friends watched me do this a couple of times and would randomly park my car in a completely different spot of the parking lot after school.  :shakesfist:

Don't know how obtainable they are because they never sold a whole lot in the US, but:

looks like a european ford escort

Merkur XR4Ti

Built on the same platform as the Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz but with cool ground efx and that kick ass wing in the back, plus it was turbo'd so it went like a bat outta hell.  In Europe it was called the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth but when Ford brought it to the US they couldn't call it that because of the GMC Sierra truck and Olds Cutlass Ciera.

Ford sold two different cars in the US under the Merkur badge, the XR4Ti (which, if sold today would retail at around $40k) and a midsized sedan called the Scorpio (roughly $60k).  Neither were very popular, probably due to the high price and also they were basically just Fords built in Germany.

Semi-interesting side note...the production staff on the popular 90's Jim Rome radio show was known as "The XR4Ti".  I believe Rome had one of these automotive masterpieces when he was in college.

A small town car dealership near where I grew up, in the late 80s, had a Buick Grand National sitting on their lot.  This was an absolute bad ass car, and it was amazing that one was sitting on this lot.

Well, being a small town car lot in the 80s, they were more than just a bit lax with security.  Therefore, when one of my buddies went and looked at it after dark one Saturday night, he found it unlocked with the keys in the glove box.

He took it about 2 miles down the road and it ran out of gas.

Caused quite an uproar.  The cops and the car dealer really wanted to know who took that car.  Never found out.

A high mileage luxury car would be sweet.  This is a good-looking car, IMHO.

Yeah.  When me and my son were car shopping, a car dealer showed us a Cadillac.  Like 4500 bucks.  I really, really wanted to pull the trigger, but decided that it was way too much car for him.  Too much motor, and too hard to park.  I'm kicking myself, because I should have just bought it for myself.

The problem with those cars is all the cool gadgets are probably worn out and don't work right anymore.  Lol

He did and so did one of his producers back in the day. He still calls them the XR4Ti Crew.

He talked about how he basically wrote a business case to convince his dad that Jim should be able to get this car or something, and then the thing caught fire or melted down or something dramatic like that.

A good friend of mine imported a 1991 Hiace from Japan a few years ago. Roughly 28,000 miles on the odometer. It was used as a private ambulance while over there. Arrived with a gurney and some bloody linens. He's since gutted it and is in the process of building it out. Added a lift, custom bumpers, and added a turbo to the diesel engine. We meet up in the Utah desert all the time. The thing is great and I recommend you follow your dream.

I like isuzus.

Trooper. The older model is ugly but beautiful in a cardboard box sort of way so doesn't belong in ITT.

Vehicross. Practically still looks semi modern. What an under appreciated sex machine. It even wears yellow well. Most people hate them though.

The Amigo. Practically brings the campfire and beach with it.

I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

It looks like you would stand a better than 50-50 shot of rolling it over just about every time you took it out of the driveway.
