If someone officially enters the portal, what - if anything - does that do to their eligibility to play in the bowl game? Or are the coaches like “even if you do decide to stay, we aren’t going to game plan around you being here”

I can't think of very many cases, of any, of a player entering the portal but continuing to practice with their current team. I guess it depends on the timing of said player entering and subsequently exiting the portal. If Savage decided to come back, within the next couple of days, I'm sure he'll play in the bowl.

Nate Johnson, also in portal.  And the guy behind him is in the portal.  They all bailed when Rising announced he was coming back.
