Those schools will almost exclusively become the playgrounds for the children of the very wealthy.

Honest question, what do we think will come of our universities? Attendance is already dipping massively, people are finally waking up that the arts degree they took out $100k in student loan debt is never going to get paid off and no ROI. I just don't see how universities are going to survive with current format.  :dunno:
Trade school is where its at for the next several years(decades) imo.
I don’t agree with most of this tbh

I know a crap ton and it's because a lot of parents out there don't know what they're signing their kids up for. The system is rigged. If your parents do good enough just to get by, your federal yearly amount your freshman year is like $5500. Then they sign you up for private loans to cover the rest and the rest is history. I've paid off 80 K of private loans and have 20 K left of federal. Kelly Stewart is a mhk townie and had the same kind of debt. It sounds all irresponsible and is, but try telling that to an 18 year old kid, who just wants to go to school to be a cat and party rock with your boys.

So is this guy picking up my tab or what? Someone wanna decipher who he's really helping here?

the U.S. Department of Education will enact student loan cancellation for 72,000 student loan borrowers who previously had some student loans cancelled, but now will get full student loan cancellation. The Biden administration says the previous formula to cancel student loans in cases of fraud or school closure that was used in the Trump administration — which often created partial student loan forgiveness — was unfair to student loan borrowers.

Quote
Today, he cancelled another $1.3 billion of student loans for 41,000 borrowers with total and permanent disability.

Those two groups having their loans forgiven is perfectly reasonable and I don't know how anyone could view these as the least bit controversial.

Quote
For example, $2.3 billion of student loans represents only 0.1% of the $1.7 trillion of student loan debt outstanding, according to the latest student loan debt statistics. While approximately 110,000 student loan borrowers will get relief, this only represents 0.2% of all 45 million student loan borrowers.
Disgusting.
Our education system and health care system are in a race to see which can be the most onerous and predatory.

Agree. And, to be honest, my questions itt stem from Mrs. Nicname and I aggressively paying off student loan debt the last year or so. Was a bit worried about making a bad decision and basically wasting lots of thousands of dollars to buy an egg to put on my face.

As Wacky said, it might be time to pump the brakes on that for a bit.

Unless it would be universal, I doubt any forgiveness would affect us anyway.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

If you are making a good living there will be no forgiveness just like you cannot deduct that student loan interest.

420seriouscat69, do you think the people that would spend 100k on an art degree (obviously not the same people, but people like them) would consider trade schools a likely alternative?

I believe the original comment was about a liberal arts degree. Not a literal art degree.

I don't. I think the people that get in that hole, are people that are pretty passionate about going to college and getting the college experience and possibly being in love with said University as a kid.

Also, I love the people who got college paid for by mommy and daddy like to say stuff like "Why don't you just get a job, I did! etc". When it's like, yeah, I did that and played baseball in HS. I was ranked in the top 10 percent in my class, 3.9 GPA, and on National Honor Society. But because I didn't test well, that takes away my chances of a scholarship. It's such an utter BS system.

The vast majority of high end private schools are not worth it IMO.

There's one just down the road from me.  I've learned enough about it to know it's not worth it.  But they'll hammer that name and that rep relentlessly.

Yeah, it's something I'm passionate about. Falling victim to the system and working in it, you get to know it on a whole different level. It's something I'm well educated in and I wish I wasn't such a dumbass out of HS. Took a toll on my livelihood in my 20's.

It would be way more efficient if you didn't have to take the pud BS classes. I didn't want to learn about rocks or have to take electives. Let me take the core classes related to my major. So my senior year I took golf and bowling the last semester
But they want you to be well rounded :jerk:

I'm extremely liberal, if not down right socialist when it comes to things like real and beneficial infrastructure projects.

That's what we pay the government to do.

That is the smartest post you've ever made.

lol, all he said was "I like when the government spends money on projects I deem worthy, like that wall to keep Mexicans out." His view on infrastructure is the same as anyone else, even libertarians.

I mean, if you want to sign up for an employment factory then you certainly have options. trade schools are incredible for that. not everyone wants or needs the same thing. that's why it's great that we have private liberal arts schools, state schools, trade schools, jucos, no education required employment, the works! I certainly can see people regretting their decision on which path to take later in life. but that doesn't change by reducing the options. I'm always confused by the vitriol on this issue.

sd is right and getting a bachelor's degree is still an extremely good investment for those that only care about that aspect.

He 100% believes it too. These idiots think we're falling behind the rest of the world in education because it isn't exclusive enough. Never mind the fact we already have the least equitable education system than every other country above us.

Sap more resources from the poor and disadvantaged then they'll just quit and we won't have to count them.
