I suppose one angle is that you guys elected the dude that paid a huge role into putting those people in jail, so maybe after 25 years of his highly racist and racial targeting legislation he'll finally work to help get some of them released.

You'll support him 1000% either way.  Always have and always will.

I disagree 7, and that's A OK. Time will tell if the administration does something beyond transferring prisoners from private facilities to government run facilities. For now, I simply see it as pandering.

Working to dismantle a system that incentivizes people losing their freedom and allows other people to profit off of that? Sure, I'll support that - no matter who does it, when they do it, or how they previously felt about it at any point in time.

It' fantastic to see you holding iPOTUS accountable 25 years too late.

Great job.

iPOTUS Biden:  Rewarded with the presidency even though is track record shows again and again that he was one of the biggest racists in Congress and his best bud was another huge racist.

I think Trey did a good job of clarifying, but there are compelling reasons for dismantling private prisons even if you think the number incarcerated should stay the exact same.

Presumably the folks running these private prisons have significant pressure (if not a fiduciary obligation) to maximize profits. Think about what that means in application. Their entire goal is to do two things: (1) get costs as low as possible (directly affecting the quality of life for those behind bars), and (2) grow revenue as much as possible (presumably working to encourage policies that get more people behind bars).

Are these prisons federally owned and privately operated or are they wholely private?

Congrats, Joe. You've saved the day with an 8% reduction in prison population. Oh, wait. He's not eliminating their sentence. It's just where they're held.

Yes. I'm aware of the evils of private prisons.

Now we will have overcrowding to the front as they find new homes for the prisoners unless the feds buy the prisons.

If Feds don't buy the prisons, the companies will contract with states, and they become private prisons for states.

So, what's Biden's plan?

Biden really has no control over state criminal justice policy.

And I assume some federal decriminalization would be coming, but even if not they don’t need Biden to force the release of prisoners from overcrowded facilities. The courts can take care of that.

How many (more) rivers will get polluted?  How many more environmental dead zones will get created?  How many billions of gallons of additional water (in very dry places) get consumed?  How many millions of gallons of hydrochloric acid will seep into the ground in evaporation pools?  On top of the pools of manganese, potassium, borax and leftover salts?

In order for the Federal Government to buy 655,000 electric cars?

Probably explains a lot about Nancy's recent investments.
