Isn’t asking a 20 year coach to take a pay cut the same as firing him?
I agree in the sense that OSU might be assuming that Gundy interprets it that way and leaves.  I do not agree if you are suggesting that those two things are equal.

Gundy has been compensated handsomely for his prior performance, even getting raises when he would go interview for other jobs.  Going winless in the conference is not merely a “down year.” It’s the very definition of absolute failure. Taking a pay cut is simply accepting responsibility for the consequences of absolute failure.

Yeah, in a year where they could/should have been a contender, they utterly failed. They need a huge direction change.

I guess I don’t know what “for cause” means. Is sucking absolute crap not “cause” enough?

Their cause is the way Gundy handled Gordon's DUI. They are going to look foolish and end up paying the full buyout if they try to do that at this point, but it would have been legitimate if they would have fired him when it happened.

Kotelnicki apparently withdrew his name from consideration. Anthony Becht seems to be gathering steam, would be crippling for Iowa State.

Is Chip Kelly going to jump back into another HC job?  Maybe he's waiting another cycle.

Could probably raise some NIL funds for a few towel boys and expanded toilet room with a shower.

I feel like Chip is over the whole recruiting thing and just wants to run the X's/O's of a program and not spend the majority of his time catering to the whims of 18-22 year olds.

Maybe you're right.  Chip does seem legitimately different.  It seems like Oregon still mimics the quirky swagger his teams had, which is a testament to the uniqueness and efficacy of the culture he created there (unless I'm wrong and it started under Bellotti).

Bellotti turned it around and had some top10ish teams but they were still a tier below USC and Washington in the old PAC.  it was under Chip and allegedly paying recruits where they ascended to the top tier imo.

College football enquirer podcast said it was led by the WVU boosters who were pissed about Huggins firing. That's wild to me though because they threw a fit when he left for Michigan.

I had to look it up and he actually did better at Arizona than I realized and he's also had a nice run at Jacksonville State
