Verizon deploying 5G small cell throughout the whole hood.  Me with 5G capable laptop.   Can now choose between that or my 1G wired connection.

Bad news, Crown Castle building out Verizon and selling excess capacity direct.   :shakesfist:

Pro-Tip:  Small Cell doesn't increase capacity of master node switch site.   Small cell improves coverage, doesn't do anything for capacity.

Is this, or was this, everyone's experience?

My days haven't been longer, but I did have an increase in meetings. That mostly had to do with going over new guidance in working for home and other changes we had to make as a result of doing everything electronically and virtually. The increase in e-mails has been the worst aspect, but I think that has to do with the population I work with being stuck at home and e-mailing me with every little thing that pops in their head.

I'm fine with those downsides given it means I can roll out of bed at 7:55am, and I can wear basketball shorts all day, everyday.

I have definitely had more meetings. Not really longer days, even pre-COVID we had a pretty laid back work schedule. Basically as long as I show up before 10AM, don’t miss meetings, get my work done, and can do off hour deployments I’m fine. WFH made all of that even easier, also we extended our WFH until the end of the year today.

more meetings for sure.  some days can be longer, or i can pop in and work a little on the weekends easier if i want to, but also some days i work less.  think it all evens out to me, and i save an hour and a half each day commuting/getting ready for work.

more meetings, not really more emails. And I'm pretty good at shutting it down at 5 or so to cook dinner. But I deal with physical products and everything takes soooooo much longer than it would if I could travel to see suppliers and be in the office with larger groups.

right now it's kind of a weird spot because there are some activities for the kids that are open that I need to haul them to and no one is carpooling, so I need to take time out of the middle of the day to do things. :frown:

On the flip side, I don't hesitate to take a 2pm nap if I have a block without meetings, so whatever.

I spend more time working but I'd rather be working than commuting for 2 hours a day.

Meetings spiked early and have settled. I block time each week for no meetings on Outlook. Keeps people from dropping on me when I'm "free".

No travel has been nice. Stretchy shorts and t-shirts every day. Pull on a golf shirt for video meetings.

Email is about the same. We're spread over four states. So email was already part of the game

Big yes to naps and mowing. :)

longer days, more meetings, more emails. in my scenario these all would have increased due to project/client needs anyway but it has been crazy. client is eastern time so my day begins at 7 am which sucks crap.

I did the same. Had Outlook Insights block off Focus Time and lunch on my calendar.

I'm loving the crap out of not commuting for an hour every day as well as wearing shorts and a t shirt.  Meetings increased a tiny bit early on but have gone back down to normal.  I do need to upgrade my chair though.  The padding in the seat just isn't enough.  I could probably go in to the building and take my chair from there, it is super comfortable and I think they have been letting people take equipment home.

It's definitely easy to get sucked into longer days.  Just need to work a little more on setting boundaries to fix that though.  Since an initial spike, it's been pretty smooth sailing for me.

Turn off work emails (or at least notifications) on your phone.
:adios:

I enjoy longer days with more built in eff off time v. intense short days with a drive into the office as the shitty sandwich bread

The only time I miss the office is every three months or so when I need to scan or print something for personal use. I always spend 20 minutes rough ridin' with my printer at home, trying to get it to work. The one in the office always worked immediately with no hassle.

It’s easier to organize the boys for lunch booze when you’re in the office together as well
