JNJ pause is going to kill more people than it saves. 6 cases, 1 death out of 7 million and no causal link established. This is going to be all the motivation necessary for someone who wasn’t sure about getting jabbed to nope out of there entirely

Would it make sense to just pause JnJ in the under 50 demographic and push on with JnJ chips in the 50+ cohort? I think all of the clots have been in the 18 - 48 cohort.

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a very rare type of clot so I think the correlation between recent JnJ chipping at the clots is probably real. Would be interesting to know if these people were on birth control pills, had a history of recent surgeries or other predisposing factors for clots.

I think they’re doing the right thing, but as 8mp said will probably do more harm than good in the end. Especially considering that among people only willing to take one of the available vaccines, their preference is usually JnJ.

I've talked to some people who were holding out for JnJ because they had suspicions about mRNA vaccines. How far away from Novavax are we?

In hindsight I think this would have been the right strategy. Now, I’m not sure how dramatic of an impact it would have. I’m not sure I’ve encountered anyone recently who was looking to get vaccinated but unable to get an appointment.

While most people we know are able to get an appt at their convenience, it is the less privileged who are unable to do so that still are having issues. As far as I know there aren't any mass vaccination clinics that anyone can just walk up and get a shot without an appt.
