This sure seems like a direct respnse to Trump.

Definitely is, if Trump told him not to do it, he wouldn't. No one is arguing that MAGA won't do MAGA things. However, I would welcome everyone who haven't read the article to give it a read. I'm not going to defend Jerry rough ridin' Falwell, but it is worth noting that they aren't requiring students to return, only giving them the option, and they are still following the state recommendations of limiting gatherings to 10 people or less. There are some students that almost certainly will need to live in those dorms, and in some cases that might be much more safe than 6 people squeezing into a 2 bedroom apartment.

I find it very lol that a lot of you who are still getting paid doing jack crap at home are the ones who want this to go for months.

Accurate.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Sedgwick County is starting a Stay at Home order tomorrow, I think. But the draft exempts 26 extremely broad categories of businesses, including basically all the major manufacturers and basically all the major big box retail. Gas and groceries are exempt. So are liquor stores?! Interesting. Pet supply stores, exempt.

One wonders what the county commissioners are actually trying to accomplish here, other than “do something.” On the one hand, it appears to be a drastic overreaction - I think there are currently 3 or 4 confirmed cases in a county of over 500,000 people. On the other hand, it appears to be a largely symbolic overreaction, although it is going to further harm a lot of small businesses who can’t shoehorn their way into one of the exemptions.
this is really dumb. there aren't enough tests to begin with and you either need a doctors order to get a test in most areas or on the verge of hospitalization.

When I graduated in 2008, they were giving new grads peanuts for their first job to replace fat cats. That crap is going to happen again in 2020 and now the fat cats are the ones who got peanuts to start and had to work their asses off for years to get here. The Cycle is coming back to hit millennials, but yes, I hope all of your racist grandparents are ok right now.

I somewhat agree with the first part, the exemptions are a half measure. I'm still going to the office and our multi-tenant building parking lot is as full as usual. I just grabbed some lunch and 2/3rds of every strip mall store is still open, every other office building has a full parking lot, the box stores look like it's Christmas.

It needs a lot of exemptions cut, but better than nothing I suppose.

If there is one thing we’ve learned during this pandemic it’s that we should wait until there are a ton of known cases before implementing stay at home.  Very effective.

Italy just reported another 743 dead today. I think they are still at the peak, but it isn't going to rapidly come down like people hoped.

I’ve learned the difference between me and MAGAs is that MAGAs are willing to die to keep the economy humming along and I’m willing to take a few years of recession in order to avoid death.

The flu deaths are still astonishing imo, like what if we didn't have a vaccine.
Yeah this whole deal provides a great opportunity for educating folks about the importance of getting the flu shot. Like, 20 yo Cat could have killed someone just cause he wasn’t worried about getting sick with the flu. :sdeek:

No, it isn’t dumb. I agree there all likely more unconfirmed cases, but you still have to use something as a consistent metric. And 3 confirmed cases in comparison to other parts of the country is laughably low to be imposing this sort of order.

As the testing increases, so will the number of confirmed cases, and the mortality rate will decrease. But that is a separate issue.

I think you might want to consider how many people will die because of an economic depression. Even in the last recession suicides and overdoses spiked, not to mention healthcare is deferred, etc. The birthrate also falls which, despite what the pro baby murder lobby around here thinks, is not a good thing.

Economy is trashed regardless of what you do. The difference now is are you willing to sacrifice some lives or more lives. Italy proving this thing doesn't/isn't going away tomorrow. I suggest all who want to go back to work next week walk through an ICU w/o PPE and look at all the people in there on respirators before returning to work to make sure they know what they are willing to do to themselves and others. Also should probably have them sign a waiver that they decline any medical care if they happen to be the 20% who need to go to the hospital due to the sickness. Only fair.

I have models for how many are expected to die if we don’t take extreme measures now. I’m happy to review any estimates you have of how many will die due to recession to compare.

And OT, but one thing that could almost guarantee fewer suicides during a recession: stricter gun regulations.

Oh, and while you are in the ICU tell the nurses and doctors you are willing to put them under more stress and strain cause it's just slaughtering the economy and we can't have that. T's and P's amirite?

People who want hundreds of thousands of people to die of rona to save the 10k that committed suicide from 08-10 might want to rethink their totally rational and pragmatic worldview

(I dunno if 10k is accurate, but is the figure magaags is using)
