Is that Ohio order being done eminent domain-style, with compensation to the now-jobless?

KSUW: go to bars and restaurants!
Ohio Governor: bars and restaurants are closed.

Government “leaders” are typically anything but. Rather, they are weathervanes of public sentiment. If you want to see public hysteria distilled, look to your “leaders.”

The Ohio governor in particular has been well ahead of public hysteria with every step.

But like you should also read what doctors and scientists are saying. I don't know where you get your information that this isn't a big deal.

You think people going out less in an attempt to slow the spread of a virus is freaking out?

To an extent, absolutely. The long-term economic ramifications of over-reaction will likely be far more devastating than the virus itself. If you’re sick, stay home. If you aren’t, practice clean habits. I’m not saying you need to go to cesspools like buffets, but you can keep going to restaurants and stores. This isn’t that hard. Use common sense. It’s the same way you stay healthy in general over the winter.

For real, people need to get a grip.

Ok here is my rant that most people on this blogsite don't need to hear and you won't care about:

The last figure I saw showed that only about 20% of people who get COVID-19 will need to be hospitalized.  If that 20% require hospitalization around the same time, the healthcare system will not be able to treat all of them effectively.  As a result, some will die that otherwise could have survived.  It's not something that is necessarily trackable, but nationwide those preventable deaths will be a pretty big number.  Statewide a little smaller, citywide even smaller, and within your local community you might only hear about a few people.  But even then, if I can prevent even one death by breaking from my usual routine I'll do it. Even if it hurts the local economy.  My word, how many conservatives keep insisting on adding billions to the federal deficit in military spending in the name of "protecting American citizens" when this type of a pandemic if left unchecked could kill more U.S. citizens than any of our military engagements?

Statistically, you can be sure that those numbers are being driven down by those practicing social distancing.  The thing is, we may never know what that benefit is from the folks who are doing their part to drive down the number of deaths due to COVID-19.  No matter where this ends up, the people complaining about "freaking out" will say they were right, and they will take zero responsibility for the deaths due to overcrowded hospitals because they were taking precautions and never had a cough.

I was literally just coming here to post this. Guess we know where KSUW and others get their info.

Ksu-w plan sounds much more fun than this weekend has been I have to be honest.

It just doesn't seem the best way to protectt my community. I definitely want to economically keep business running ( it's basically my only have) but honestly that seems the job of a relief plan from the government than my dining out is going to do.

I haven't seen one scientist or doctor say different. Must be out getting hammered and no time to post on the internet.

TBH there's no time for that

Sure there is. Shift resources and money from the entities focused on taxing, regulating, etc. open bars and restaurants to be resources and funding for a temporary streamlined form of an unemployment department for those who will go broke due to the shutdown. It won't be instant money, but will give those people assurance that there is a process for them to help get some compensation.

Hell, employ some of those who just lost jobs and have the necessary skillsets to work for the State on the matter. Or give them temp jobs doing some government task that can still be done now, or ask shutdown restaurants to operate as food banks for the needy, at government expense.

oh I think something like you're describing should and will come together over the next couple of days and weeks but the bars and restaurants need to close like right now not in like a month after it's all figured out

Can't they just ban dining in restaurants but allow them to stay open (if desired) and allow carry out and drive through?  Seems common sense with less economic impact.

Well then sure, give the close order now accompanied by assurances to those freaking out about their businesses and jobs being vanished indefinitely that there is a multifaceted compensation plan to be rolled out within ___ days and to stay on (new dedicated website for this purpose) for up to the minute details.

In the meantime, when I walk the dog, I'm trying to stop at the places I still have friends working at and getting stuff to go and tipping 100%.

Obama should irl give a speech to Americans with general instructions on slowing the spread

https://twitter.com/BarackObama/status/1239267360739074048

Yes that's a great idea.

Simulations!! We must believe the simulations! :runaway:
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

you should go to the ohio governor's twitter. He's not doing everything exactly how you'd like but he and his team seem to have similar concerns. https://twitter.com/GovMikeDeWine

and why not just venmo your friends money?
