So my kids’ soccer league just banned post-game handshakes.

So sweating and breathing all over each other and the ball during game - cool. Slapping hands after the game - keep your pestilent mits to yourself!!

My YMCA banned pickup basketball and the kids' school banned changing into PE clothes for PE (wtf). IMO since no one trusts the government's guidance and there aren't really ways to get tested unless you need to go to the hospital, organizations are making overly cautious calls for positive perception and so people don't blame them if something happens later on. Kind of a pain.

pretty much each and every step to keep people away from each other makes sense. old people are depending on the rest of us not being selfish assholes here.

at my kid's school they still have band practice and are in close proximity in all other classes and they are still participating in PE, just not changing into PE clothes. My gym is still open and having classes and all the rest of the gym open. Like shut it down or don't.

My problem isn’t taking precautions, it’s about taking symbolic precautions to show that you’re doing something but that aren’t actually doing anything. The no post-game handshake thing is a great example. It’s asinine. These kids are breathing on each other, colliding with each other, all handling the same ball - and that’s all cool - but we gotta get rid of that brief hand slap after? That’s eff’ing stupid. It’s insultingly stupid. It seems like maybe the stupidity associated with this virus is more contagious than the virus itself.

If they tell the public how to avoid contracting the virus then the media can reverse engineer that advice to discover how best to CONTRACT the virus and then weaponize it against the President.

Someone told me today that all the hand washing and face touching were all psychological to help people cope and feel like they are doing something and really doesn't do much at all to prevent the virus from spreading.

agreed, it's happening like this because Trump is a moron. The government is failing at providing guidelines and testing so organizations are just trying to do something.
