in theory that's a great idea but there's no way in practice. Maybe they can avoid their grandmas but they can't avoid people around town.

True true, I'm curious if the tweeter peeps were purposely trying to point out masks are great but sustained indoor close contact, even wearing them, is a higher risk behavior than hanging outdoors distanced without masks.

I realize the tweets didn't state any of the above directly, curious how others rank risks (working alongside people indoors for long periods of time with mask, going out to a restaurant indoors where people won't have masks on, chilling outdoors at a bar, going to shop without a mask vs with, hanging out indoors with friends w/ a mask)

(lowest risk to highest)

1) grocery shopping with a mask on (and I'm still doing the order online/bring it to my car once a week)
2) chilling outdoors at a bar (or restaurant) and I'll do this maybe once every two weeks.

I won't do any of the others and are all similar risk IMO. I took a week vacation with another family and we stayed together indoors but they all had negative tests before we left. I don't trust any of my friends otherwise - they talk about forming a bubble but then they hang out with other families. I see coworkers going to indoor parties on instagram so I assume what I don't see is worse. My work is also letting people travel domestically and to Mexico and I don't know that there is any policy for returning so I don't want to be in an office with any of them.

You’re right. Those who think they aren’t immunocompromised or think it’s a hoax or are willing to take chances etc (including your friends by your own admission) have opted to kill others, so American people haven’t necessarily chosen their own path but American people are at fault.
