this is not wrong.  this rough ridin' thing is everywhere and it's not going to be stopped by closing an applebees and telling or even forcing people to stay in their house.  It's a total bitch, no one is happy about it but eff, fighting over whether we can go to the gym or fly to chicago is not at all helping.

I am not sure why everyone is confused that we really cannot shut down a country of 350mm and it's economy.  It cannot be done.

what a load of mindless, afactual nonsense.  there was a time when this virus was predominantly a disease of affluent nations.  if you look at yesterday's stats, the only first world country in the top ten for daily deaths is the united states.  every other affluent nation has controlled or prevented significant outbreaks.

I am not sure we disagree.  I am also not sure the rest of the affluent world is beating the rona either.

maybe not, but they definitely have more things open and are living much more normal lives and have a lot fewer people dying and catching the virus (per capita)

kudos to the hypothetical affluent nation who has a marginally lower per capita death rate then.  w

yeah, if you discount deaths, cases and quality of life, very little difference between them and us.

Quality of life?

Turns on Premiere League, Bundasliga, La Liga . . . empty stands.   :frown: :frown: :frown:

Merkel advocating for fines against non-mask wearers and urging people to, "stick to the rules".   German gov't on the cusp of once again restricting social gatherings to family members only.  Nightclubs closed until October.

But, quality of life.

If I’m reading that correctly, the gap between the US and other countries is one extra death per million people?

You're reading it wrong. Picking out Germany, today they had 0.0567 deaths per million per day (7 day average) and the US had 3.16 deaths per million per day, or 56 times the deaths per capita of Germany.

If you want to subtract, the US has 3.1033 more deaths per million per day

Ok yeah, hard to tell on that scale. So the difference between the highest and lowest is 3/1,000,000 per day.

Maybe just that the difference between less than 1 and less than 4 out of a million isn’t that big? I dunno I thought that was obvious.

Yeah I guess I was holding out hope that you had a good point or something and weren't really saying "the number of covid deaths in the US isn't that big relative to places like the EU". My mistake!

Well when you factor in that the US has a population of 330 million that number starts to get pretty significant.

if there was only one day of this daily difference in death rate, i agree, it wouldn't be that significant.

That is a difference of 3 people per million per day, which in the US is an extra 900 people per day, which is an extra 330,000 per year.

All I have to do is turn on a match or read one single article from 24 hours ago to understand what's going on, Phil..

Give it a try, don't listen to Twitter rando's for everything.
