Surely people don’t think they will be able to avoid covid somehow for the rest of their lives?
It truly has gotten to be insane and one of the primary drivers behind why this thing will go on far longer than it should.

Thinking you can dip and dodge Covid for even the next year, let alone the rest of your life boggles my mind.  Especially Delta apparently.

We are damn lucky that just about all the groups at high risk of serious COVID complications have had ample opportunity to get vaccinated. As it stands, though, I’m not sure why we’re talking about cases rather than hospitalizations.

If the vast majority are recovering from Delta, I don’t think it’s worth reimposing meaningful restrictions or worrying about “breakthrough” infections.

I get the stance of people who say I’d rather get covid then get the vaccine.  If you want to risk it then whatever it’s your choice. If there are people somehow hoping to avoid both all together they are complete lunatics.

Yeah hospitalizations are how things go south. And I don't know if there's enough unvaccinated folks to get close to overrunning hospitals again, even if overall cases surge.

What is the rationale for preferring to get COVID?

I think some people think your immune response is better than from a vaccine.

I know people that got Covid and are convinced they don't need a vaccine and are annoyed/worried at the possibility of having to prove they are vaccinated to do to certain places and do certain things. But I don't think they'd get vaccinated anyway.

70 percent of those 18 and up in the US have got at least one shot SD.  That leaves only 60 million people eighteen or over that haven’t been vaxxed and a good chunk of those people have already got covid.

Are hospitals really being overrun anywhere?
DLew mentioned KU opening another Covid unit, but I think hospitals are way better prepared for flexing capacity like that than they were a year ago.

Locally (and I imagine nationally) there is a backlog of medical procedures that have been postponed for the past year that are now starting to be addressed.

Only the very dumbest of posters think I’m saying not to get the vaccine.

The point has always been . . . that it’s quite clear that the only way to emerge from this is 100% BAU.  These idiots, like the shitheads in California now advocating for wearing masks indoors again.  On top of the crap for brains hinting around about restrictions (again).  Are going to ensure that this thing is going to drag on and on and on.

eff them.

I'm indifferent to the survival of them and their loved ones. Middle ground!

in the spirit of middle grounding, i'll go so far as to say that they're no stupider than skydivers, mountain climbers and others that enjoy risking their health for no comprehensible reason.

I'd put them more in line with the purposefully obese. Maybe a 30 year old who decides to take up smoking.

Sumo wrestlers

Edit: actually just stumbled on this really interesting article fact checking myself https://www.businessinsider.com/sumo-wrestlers-obesity-diet-calories-exercise-symptoms-2019-3

Maybe the truly purposefully obese aren’t actually unhealthy.
