Someone, who isn't a proven liar, needs going to explain this to me very slowly.

for the anomaly that ipa identified, it's just an artifact of reporting.  it takes the cdc a long time to make the death data available.

It's a two to three week lag from my understanding. We're six weeks plus into rising cases.

the last time i looked at it carefully, it was about a four week lag from cases to deaths in the worldometers/covid tracking project data.

i don't know what the lag is from covid tracking project reporting the death (as the date reported by the state) to when the cdc reports the death (as the date when the death occurred), but i know there is one.

my guess is it's because it takes so long to process and I also don't know if it gets down to good county level data which is really where the bulk of the covid policy is made.
