way too early depth-chart predictos
« on: July 04, 2019, 02:28:57 PM »
deffo:

DE: Wyatt Hubert | Kyle Ball
DT: Trey Dishon | Drew Wiley
DT: Jordan Mittie OR Joe Davies
DE: Reggie Walker | Bronson Massie

LB: Elijah Sullivan | Eric Gallon
LB: Da'Quan Patton | Daniel Green

CB: Kevion McGee | Lance Robinson
CB: A.J. Parker | Darreyl Patterson
S: Denzel Goolsby | Wayne Jones
S: Marcus Hayes | Jahron McPherson
NB: Walter Neil Jr | Jonathan Durham

the d line and the secondary have the opportunity to be really good units. unfortunately, with hughes out we're going to be soft in the middle again this year.

offo:

QB: Skylar Thompson | John Holcombe

RB: James Gilbert OR Jordon Brown | Harry Trotter
FB: Adam Harter | Jax Dineen

TE: Nick Lenners | Blaise Gammon

LT: Scott Frantz | Nick Kaltmayer
LG: Josh Rivas | Kaitori Leveston
C: Adam Holtorf | ?????
RG: Ben Adler OR Evan Curl | Christian Duffie
RT: Tyler Mitchell | Justin Eichman

WR: Dalton Gruntley | Chabastin Taylor
WR: Wykeen Gill | Keenan Garber
WR: Malik Knowles | Landry Weber OR Joshua Youngblood

QB is good
first unit on the line should be solid, second unit will be a rough ridin' mess
i'm sure one of our 9 (!) RBs will be ok
WRs will probably be hot garbage, but the Garber/Knowles/Youngblood trio is intriguing. Really need Taylor to step up/emerge this year

Don't forget that NDSU, under Messingham/HCCK, had FIVE backs who each had at least 80 carries last season.

I will burn Vanier to the ground if Landry Weber sees the field over Youngblood.  Also Marques Hayes has yet to be granted a waiver, and it doesn’t look terribly promising.  Jigging J Durham was my guy but he’s hot garbage and I’d want Jonathan Alexander over him all day er’ day.

Yeah, it was tough to evaluate Garber and Youngblood just because I have no idea how D-I ready either of them will be. Gill and Landry have years in a D-I program, the advantage of the spring in CK's system and the other disadvantage for Youngblood is that I have no idea how good his hands are. All of this HS tape is of him at QB and RB, so he'll probably need to spend some time learning how to run routes, developing chemistry with the QBs etc. All the physical tools are there, tho.

Just curious - seems like Kaltmayer would be the guy at RT since he's started there before instead of shifting Mitchell to RT (has he played there before)?

Manhatter loves THE crap out of Keenan Garner FWIW.   I might be overly zealous about Youngblood and Garber but I think one of those two guys will be an impact player in 2019.

I think our wr’s will be ok. There were flashes of goodness from the young guys last year. And Gruntley is a great route runner deceptively fast intangibles comparable to jordy nelson type

Better suggestion: tie into chair and shoot paintballs at forehead until acceptable words, phrases, sentences appear.

personally i think the secondary is trash too. i'm not sure any of our DBs would start at KU. In fact, I'm pretty sure none of them would.
we had 2 DLs who were in the top 5 in the league in QB pressures but our secondary still gave up the most if not almost most passing yards in school history.
secondary recruiting is the worst position recruiting in the program

Honestly, everyone’s secondary sucks in this league. It’s a 5 WR set every play and quick slants for 15-20 yards at a time. Shelly got drafted because the league knows this. We’re gonna suck no matter what this year in the secondary. Just hope they can pick a few.

In the years I played and coached football, I really enjoyed having teammates and coaches to compete with who had your positive attitude. It made things so much easier. Like the time (HC in HS) we beat the #3 team in the state 13-7 and we were unranked. Ran the same damned play 5 times in a row over the LT and LG, from different sets. Or the times, NAIA, and Div 2 we kept teams from the playoffs.

Unless it's some pud game like KSU v NDSU or Iowa v NDSU, you go in with the attitude that you're gonna lose.

Damn, son. Did you ever win Any Days?
