Also, as Steven David mentioned, whoever would replace Elon as CEO would serve at the pleasure of Elon and Elon alone. The board hires and fires the CEO, and there is only one member of the board--Elon.

It will not crater anyone's career no matter how terrible they do. And any decent CEO will have no problem giving Elon all the blame when they inevitably fail. (Effectively blaming other people for failures is a key C-suite skill)

I would imagine most competent people with self-respect would not want to do the job, but there are plenty of people willing to compromise on the self-respect for a paycheck and lots of people without either quality so should be no problem.

I think plenty of competent people with self-respect would recognize the opportunity and want to do the job even if they expected to fail and deal with a grade-a moron of a boss. You'd just need to make sure he can't effectively accuse you of being a pedophile along the way

I just assume that even on the scale of insanely egotistical ceo psychos elon is just off the charts nuts and is just obviously

1) totally ad-hoc 2) going to meddle and undermine the person at every turn

every day would be a crisis of Elon's making. Do you really think he will listen to them?

The absolute best case is he just gets bored with it, but considering how much money is at stake and that it is his favorite hobby, I kind of doubt it!

I could see a competent / self respect combo accepting a Twitter CEO job under the circumstances.

But I don’t see an exceptional person doing so (regardless of self respect) or a highly ethical person doing so (regardless of capability).

I agree with everything you said! It would be an absolute crap show! I just don't think many "free agent" CEO's would care. I mean all his companies are generally regarded as shitty places to work top to bottom but they still get a lot of good talent. In this case you go into it expecting a crap show, negotiate a good buyout, get discussed on CNBC 24-7, and set yourself up for the next gig!

Politics aside, it’s wild that we now live in a world where mark Zuckerberg (high negative coolness), is still way cooler than Elon musk (maybe the least cool person on the planet?).
