Klieman is basically a 5-4 coach in the B12 for his tenure here. I’d like to see us be at least a 6-3 (on average) program going forward. This conference is ripe for a top-dog or two to emerge. We can either be one of those programs or regress to the conference mean.

Well, right now ISU, BYU, and ASU are telling us it's them. It's kinda crazy that I'm not super confident we can compete against them.

We did compete for a championship this year.  We were 7-1 and then the wheels came off when Klieman had some kind of personal family tragedy.

Nic, what are you doing here? We were 6-3 in conference last year and 7-2 the year before that.

I'm also playing the part of un-hinged fandom right now.

However, I do think next year could be special unless we muck it all up so I'd looooove to avoid that.

Isn’t it time for us to discuss what bowl game we are going to?  You know, like rough ridin' losers.

I'm sorry but you guys are being stupid as eff. Completely ignoring the very recent past of us and all these teams to make this pedantic point is maddening. Those three programs have been completely in the mud, acting like they're set up to boss anyone is wild as hell. Then to exclude the only actual team who turned a corner this year and might be structured to maintain it, Colorado, is certainly a choice.

Just let a disappointing end of the season be a disappointing end of the season. The insistence on treating this program like an also-ran is really rough ridin' dumb.

Last year, they all had worse seasons than we had this year. ASU and BYU were way worse. No one has emerged as anything, it's a really balanced conference.

I’d take what Klieman has done up to now in perpetuity in the 10-team B12. The highs and lows are all part of it. I don’t think that is enough in the current version of the conference. Averaging one conference title every 5 years or so would be about right going forward tho.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I don't think the 16-team big 12 will be easier to win than the 10-team Big 12. But you'll see more variance. I haven't compared it to others but we probably had one of the toughest league schedules - we played all 4 that tied for first and 3 of them were on the road.

ISU and CU didn't have to play anyone else in the top 4 at all. TCU didn't have to play any of them either, Tech and BU only had to play 2.

Yeah, I guess. It just seems like we are setup so much better to win in football than basketball. Basketball is gonna be a nightmare going forward. There's gonna be like 6-8 top 25 teams every year. Football is so much more manageable for us and I hope we don't fumble it (no pun intended).

I think the simple fact that there are 16 teams instead of 10 inherently makes conference titles less likely than they used to be. But yeah we're probably closer in football, mainly because there isn't an equivalent of Arizona or KU (or now Houston) in football.

Amazingly, it's ISU, houston and KU. (We are getting passed by ISU in both sports).

we’re not getting passed by isu in anything.  this is their first ten win season.  we’ve done that ten times

when was their last elite eight? football title? anything?

everyone is fighting for the same thing, we’re not alabama for goodness sake, there’s going to be some years when crap doesn’t go our way.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

All that matters for Kleinman going forward is his record in the new big 12.  His past seasons, as a whole, are great because it included a title.

He should not be praised or faulted for anything other than how he does in the new big 12.

There is something that I think is unique to our fanbase where a lot of folks feel like we are on the precipice of everlasting irrelevance and seek to get a kick out of being dramatic about it. Like there's this expectations that we are getting kicked in the nuts constantly and we'll never recover. Maybe because of the trauma of conference realignment and the 80's football program? Don't know but it's definitely something

I think it feels that way because Campbell has beat the brakes off Klieman the last 5 years.

Interesting that you went five years instead of the six that they played against each other. Without that COVID game that absolutely should not have been played, Campbell is 3-2 against Klieman. So dramatic.

Why do our fans feel the need to try and prove we're inferior to Iowa State??? Because that somehow makes the 8- win season hurt more? To justify firing Klieman? It's so bizarre and I truly don't understand it.

Matt Campbell just had a damn 4 win season, FOUR! They went 1-8 in conference. wetwillie is spending too much time reading the miserable weirdos on kso.
