My team received an invite this morning from new pres, HRP, to a meeting this afternoon. Subject is Direction of New Software (which you may remember is actually the old software). New head of HR is also invited. D2 is dressed noticeably nicer than usual.

Nothing juicy came from this.

I came back from my workout and D2 is like, "get a load of this text from Owner/CEO. It says, 'What's [old softare company] number?'" We had no idea what type of number he's asking for. It would seem to be phone number, but he's never talked to them and really doesn't have any business calling them. Remember, D2 is the old software guru and would normally be the primary contact. D2 requested that he clarify.

We were the only two in the room. D2 got up, shut the door, and gave me a look like he was going to talk about some crap. He prefaced what he was going to say by mentioning something about being "a conspiracy theory guy." He was talking about how HRP is bypassing him to do stuff. Long story short, he thinks HRP wants to get rid of him and replace him with NG2. This had not occurred to me before. However, there may actually be something to it. Because it sure as hell seems that HRP was in fact part of a scheme to try to replace him once before with GG. Lol.

Now, NG2 is in here and he is getting her all fired up. He's talking about mistakes that HRP has made, causing our team to do more work. OMG! She's totally taking the bait! She's like, "this work is all I do these days!" They're raising their voices! "No one thought this through in advance!" etc.

Things calmed down again. But now we've heard back from Owner/CEO and he DOES want their phone number. So, this causes another D2 mini freak out. "WHY DOES HE WANT TO TALK TO THEM!?!? WHAT IS HE UP TO!?!?"

We brought on a big new client for 2020 and so far there have been some struggles to work through. D2 has been making comments about how things aren't working well at all and that maybe we should even consider just dumping the client. This morning, he is taking it to another level. He's preaching like a Southern Baptist pastor on how this business is going to destroy us. He's going to confront Owner/CEO and tell him the TRUTH about this bad, bad business. He's getting NG2 all fired up again. And now she's on board! She's going to say something, too!

In a giant coincidence, a key person in bringing on this new client was HRP.

This is NG2's time to shine. She can stab him in the back to HRP and twist the knife.

If I know NG2, and I do because I’ve read this thread cover to cover, she isn’t strategic like this.

Sounds like good advice. I think I'll tell her that it's not something that I would get involved in myself.

In that meeting last week, HRP asked D2 to work on a project plan. D2 just now got a meeting invite for tomorrow from HRP titled "D2's Project Plan." He's freaking out because he hasn't thought about it at all and has no project plan. I'm pretty sure he received the invite because HRP correctly suspects this.

There's an extra dimension here that's funny for me because I prod HRP to keep these things moving. So, it's like I'm partly responsible for this looming head on collision!

D2 has been ranting every morning for the past couple weeks. This morning, he said today is the day he's going to confront President/CEO and HRP. "I don't know if this is what they want me doing. I don't know if this is the right place for me. If I'm going to be department head ..." 'Department Head' is new to me! Also, he's not actually going anywhere ever.

Chum, how many people work for your company? Are there offices in other locations?

From the 10ish employee's that are mentioned in this thread there sure are a lot of Director/Principals/Owners/Head of Departments. I'm guessing that's because you are a :kstategrad: and only interact with senior leadership but I'm curious.

There are like 60 or so people with around 10 in other locations. In my experience with small companies, the 20-30% of the people in management positions are, simply by virtue of company size, directly adjacent to the big boss and like to give themselves executive sounding titles seemingly for that reason.

Big company: CEO > EVP > VP > Director > Manager > Supervisor > peon
Small company CEO > VP > peon
