Moana 2 is hot garbage. Disney has never done a good (animated) sequel. I wonder why? Dreamworks has some great sequels. Toy Story 2-4 might be the exception? Anyway, Moana 2 sucks.

I thought Toy Story 2 was a very legitimately good movie. Toy Story 3 is good but like I think it was a good ending spot with Andy going to college. Not as good as the others but like, topical (to me) since I am like basically the same age as Andy. Haven't seen 4.

I do think though on your overall point, they do a pretty crappy job on sequels (and really a lot do). It just always reeks of a money grab.

I actually liked Moana 2, which seems to be a very hot take. I think the key is that I had not actually seen Moana until i wanted to know the story before watching Moana 2 with the kids. So I never fell in love with the first, both just seemed decent to me.

In other words, I think sequels are always a let down because people that are huge fans of the original go into the movie expecting to be dazzled all over again, when in reality there’s only so much you can do with the story. Great movies are great because they tell a complete story.

Terminator 2. Godfather II. Superman 2. All superior to their predecessors.

Two posters had broadened the scope of the inquiry to include all sequels--animated or otherwise. I believed (and still do believe) the door had been opened.

Mr K - Crispin Glover is trapped in a shrinking labyrinth of a hotel with a bunch of gypsies. It was reasonably fun if you want something medium weird.

Clown in a Cornfield - A new horror movie coming out next month by the Tucker and Dale guy.  It's pretty good.  Sometimes it's a generic teen slasher, but once it gets going it has some special moments.  The lead actress delivers a more complex performance than a slasher typically requires.

Are you at Sundance or something? How are you seeing movies a month early?
