I see that a lot from people: the purge had a great premise. How the eff is that a great premise? It's rough ridin' asinine. Oh hey you get to break the law one day so now crime is way down and the economy is much better.
The vast majority of crime isn't because people have this generalized pent up aggression. It's either financially motivated or emotionally motivated. People would still have an incentive to deal drugs and steal/defraud or kill their spouses or exes etc out of jealousy or hate. Sex offenders would still be regularly rapey and molesty. That crap doesn't disappear the other 364 days because you get to eff crap up one day of the year. rough ridin' dumb. Crime is down so magically there are more jobs is also rough ridin' dumb.
I hate the premise. It fits perfectly that the movie was crap.
