weird weekend to leave town for vegas
I didn't plan it. Cousins bachelor party.

Weird because of the tourney? Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't see us getting a huge boost from it. Guess we'll see.

ya i figured it would be the busiest week/end of the year for most places down there.
maybe not?  i likened it to owning a fringe plaza bar and leaving the weekend of the art fair but maybe i'm overestimating how far people stray from the P&L itself.

Eh. Even if it is super busy, life will go on without me there. There are 4 other owners that can handle a disaster if they need to. Plus two managers that have worked there for 6 months. If they can't handle crap by now I'm doing something wrong.

Most don't drift far....I help with fan information and you should see the looks on people's faces when I recommend non-P&L places and tell them it's a 5-10 block walk.

Of course next year.....CHOOO-CHOOO!!!!!!!!

A 10 block walk is like a mile, that's a bad recommendation.

when did a mile long walk become the crossing of the red sea?  i mean, good grief, they're visiting KC from out of town, the last thing we'd want them to see is anything but the inside of the P&L Living Room.

I mean, I agree with you. But,  overweight Iowans typically don't want to walk more than a block or 2 to get their chicken fingers and honey mustard sauce...

Welcome to kc...we hate density. Problem is most great places are a 5 to 10 block walk.... Which is one of the great things the streetcar will pull these places together.

Don't worry, I have my 2 block away recommendations of yard house,  etc locked and loaded...you can usually judge what the person is looking for prior to them saying a word.

I've had people ask me where the shuttle was to get to sprint center from a hotel 3 blocks away... And be pissed when I told them there isn't one.

well I mean crown center is 10 blocks from sprint center, it's pretty sad if you have to tell someone to walk that far for a good restaurant. I'd also look at you like you're an idiot if you told me to walk that far in the economic center of the region for anything decent. Maybe downtown needs more tax incentives? geez.

quit being obtuse.  there's an assload of "anything decent" places within a half mile of sprint center and you know that.
if someone comes up and asks him for recommendos, he's going to give them a bunch of places that range from a few steps from sprint center, up to a mile away if they feel like going that far.   walking a mile on a nice day through a city that you're visiting isn't all that strange.  if you want to grab good food closer, that's also an option.  this isn't difficult.

Maybe we should continue in the KC things thread? One glaring but most frequent example. People ask where to get bbq. Well until this year the only two options were both 8-10 blocks away. Plowboys is now closer but only open for lunch.

This whole concept is one of the reasons behind a 2 mile streetcar. Make this 30 block downtown more accessible for those not wanting to walk a mile.

I'm just pointing out that that's a fairly long walk and ask you to not look at everyone who raises an eyebrow at that distance as some dumb fat Iowan or western Kansan who can't understand the suave and sophisticated urban lifestyle. I mean, you can do it, it's just not a good look.

I've actually made that very point to wacky when talking the streetcar. Just because we don't find it a hard walk doesn't mean others can./want to do it...spinning gE jokes into my actual opinion IRL is tiring.

Imagine my surprise when I landed in Vegas last fall and realized that I placed a last second bet on the royals to with the AL pennant through my mobile gambling app...that only works when you are in NV so I had completely forgot about it. :kstategrad:

Figured I owe everyone an update while I wait for my buds to come back from the dead.

Got in Fri morning about 6:30am. Couldn't check in to the hotel so we dropped the bags and went to mgm to make some bets. Came 1 horse away from hitting a pick 6. Made a bet for wacky, he lost. Played some blackjack, got up 300. Stopped. Then went back and went down 300. Learned to play pai gow. Got up 150. Went to legasse's stadium for dinner. Good food, we sat next to u jackass group of Iowa state fans.  They got kicked out quickly for yelling at the whole place to get mumped for betting ou. After the games were over we split up, I hit the tables at the venetian and list the money I won earlier. Ended up even for the day.

Started yesterday at mandalay bay. Awesome sports book. Won 150 on a morning session parlay.  Didn't play the tables there. Went to sushi samba. (thanks for the recommendo!) got a group of 9 together, each chipped in $45 and we went to 10 casinos and put $45 on black or red at each. As a group we won 6 and lost 3. So we each got $60 back. Was a fun way to see all the different casinos. We had a party bus last night from 6-8 for some reason. Groom and his buddy got stupid drunk. Both threw up. We got kicked out of a restaurant at the bellagio. I was selected to take them both back to the hotel room at 8:45... Met the guys back out at bellagio and played war for awhile. Got up big and quit. Moved on to the linq. Played pai gow and stayed even mostly. Lots of bachelorette parties. Got back about 3am.

Overall I'm up $650 or so. Will take. Having a blast! Today is all about food for me.
