US Men's National Team Soccer Thread! (lower division thread)

ok, i just watched the highlights, and, man. not having anything at all to do with Mexico, i kind of wish we hadn't won that match 

It was really sad, they've never qualified for a world cup, it would have been a great story, instead we have same old same old Mexico. I want new blood in Brazil, I for one will be cheering for countries like New Zealand, Iceland, and Romana in their playoff ties.

American Soccer Fan has the weirdest complex about mexico.  not very becoming IYAM

TSC doesn't apply in this case at all. We gain nothing at all from Mexico qualifying or being good at soccer. They are a rival, its okay to wish ill on your rival, they certainly wouldn't be TSCing us if we were in the same position.

I'm guessing anyone who has seen a USA/Mexico match in person outside of Columbus wishes nothing but the worst for Meh-he-co.

yeah, i get that much and agree with you to that end, MIR.  i just don't appreciate the extra "edginess" we throw at it because they're mexico.  give our neighbors to the north the same soccer tradition and rabid fanbase and i'm pretty sure my friends who don't watch soccer aren't going to be posting a damn thing on pete's friend's facebook wall about it.

but yeah, if we're fighting over a qualifying spot, eff 'em.

also an added competition of going after some of the same players to play on the senior national team it would of (and still can be) a good pitch moving forward if they don't make it into WC Proper in Brazil. Will be cheering hard for NZ.

Also you are wrong on the whole Canada vs Mexico thing. If the roles are reversed and Canada is the power and Mexico is a nobody and the history of the two countries going after many players for the senior national teams there would be just as much hostility thrown at them that there is vs Mexico.

Nah, I agree with Tobias.I love hockey and I can tell you that US Soccer fans hate Mexico much more than USA Hockey fans hate Canada and Canadians treat USA Hockey fans very disrespectfully. I don't think there is much doubt of a racial component with some, not all, US Soccer's fans opinion of Mexico
