WTF was that motherfucking sub!  rough ridin' Jurgen

Jozy has had trouble getting involved. EJ has scored for USMNT recently at least. Doesn't bother me too much.

He hasn't been involved because the entire match has been played in our half we could have Ronaldo and Messi upfront and still have a goose egg on the board. Beasley should have been the sub.

And bring on who? Goodson? And push Besler out left?

:dunno: he looks very tired and fairly injured. I'd also take Besler off because of the card. He's played well though

He does look tired and injured. All I know is this last sub will be very important.

Why I didn't like the Altidore sub, it was wasted considering the tenor of this match. If we're going into a shell, why sub a striker?

I'll take the point, but I hate playing for a draw, that got scary late.

:D  :excited:

I'm really happy you guys. Besler+Gonzalez was great.

So happy for Besler and Gonzalez, hope to see them again in June.

I know we were playing for the draw which is why the substitutions made zero sense. One striker and two outside midfielders.

No defenders at all? Or even defensive midfielders? Oh well. Do not care anymore. We got what we came for.

HUGE RESULT

a few thoughts:

Besler and Gonzalez were heroic

So was Zus and Guzan

Should of subbed off Beasley imo.

I hate the parking the bus strategy even though it won me a Champions League with Chelsea, but that was nervey and we had no shots on goal

I want Demps, or any attacking player to be taking shots on goal from 20 or in in games like this, try for something magical.

Golden Point Yanks, we are sitting pretty in qualifying right now!

yeah, i figured we'd park it way harder than we ended up doing.  can't complain with that result, that's for damn sure

Spot on, especially about putting shots on from virtually everywhere

We just totally kicked their asses. Could have easily been 3-0 USA if a few more balls had bounced our way. Oh well, guess well take the point even though its like kissing your sister amirite?

pet peeve of mine for (relatively) lesser skilled teams is not trying to put a few on frame and seeing what happens.  don't have to chuck 'em at @NativeFlash22 rate but let a few rip.  wouldn't exactly have taken us out of our offensive "flow"...

That's the Kei Kamara style of playing. Shooting when you get an inch from anywhere on the field. Had 11 goals last season, but I'm pretty sure he had the worst shot:goal ratio in MLS HISTORY.

in road games vs superior competition it really doesn't matter.

put it on frame maybe have someone crashing in for a rebound tap in or have a wonderstrike and be an American hero.

when you have zero shots on goal on one shot, i'm fine with kei'ing a few of 'em i guess

granted, "scoring a goal" was not written on jurgen's notepad for this match and with the defense doing such an admirable job, i'm incredibly happy with the result

Woah there. Just because you score a goal in soccer doesn't make you an American hero. You're still a soccer player, bro.

If we won the World Cup the star of that team would absolutely be an American hero. When we won the hockey gold medal in '80 hockey was a regional niche sport in this country, pretty similar to what lacrosse is now. The WHA/NHL merger happened less than a year before the Miracle on Ice. Now 33 years later Mike Eruzione is selling his stick and jersey for over a million dollars. The desire for Americans to be the best at everything is strong. Jingoism drives a lot of people in this country. Soccer is the final sports barrier, add to that the potential to beat Euro's and/or Latins, fly over country will eat that story line up.
