Did you watch the 3rd goal?  That was a basic mistake.

welp, at least we didn't get Mexico'ed

Need to dump Beckerman and Wondo for sure.  I'd love to see us move away from Brooks too.  FabJo I'm not sure about either.  He needs better players around him. Brinbaum, woof.

Are you serious about Brooks and Fabian? What the

First thing is to overhaul to midfield and then we'll get some better idea of what they can do.  But yesterday they had some monumental collapses (as did the whole team).  But when you drop basic coverages and look lost, I don't know.  Yes they had some bright spots, but there have been multiple games where our back line has just looked lost on responsibilities,  recognizing the opposition's organization, and totally blowing simple marking.

This isn't entirely excusable, but you know we were missing two midfielders yesterday, right? I really think Bedoya was a much bigger loss than people realize. He eats up ground and creates tension and pace. I don't particularly like Jones, but he was having a good tournament and is far superior to beckerman. Throw in the fact that Wondo can't do crap for extending the field or creating looks for himself and you have a great recipe for probably the best midfield in all of Soccer to control the match.

Weird.

Quote
It was good and right for Messi and Argentina to overwhelm the USMNT at something approaching their full capacity, for many of the reasons we laid out earlier today. Specifically, Messi’s displays of greatness against the U.S. and during the Copa América as a whole (he has an insane five goals and four assists in just two starts and two substitute appearances so far) are the exact kind of spectacles of athletic transcendence soccer in America needs.

Soccer is still a growing sport in this country, meaning eyes on and appreciation for the game are as necessary—if not more so—for American soccer to get bigger and better as sound tactics and positive tournament showings for the senior national team. We need our future athletes to be cognizant of and enthralled by the best of what the sport has to offer to have any hopes of producing players of that quality. And there’s nothing more revelatory to that end than watching Messi do his thing.

I know this from experience. It was young Messi tearing it up in Germany that summer a decade ago that first opened my eyes to what people meant when they called soccer the beautiful game. That World Cup, the next one, following my favorite player from Argentina in the summer to Barcelona in the fall—those were the events and performances that turned me into a soccer obsessive. There’s no doubt that Messi’s even superior exploits this summer, on American soil and against America’s team, will capture the imaginations of even more young fans and potential players, which in turn will redound to the benefit of every American who loves the sport.

So for that free kick, and those assists, and that beatdown, and the other shots and passes and dribbles that have awed everyone watching with rapt attention all tournament long, and for what all of that means big picture, American soccer owes Messi a debt of gratitude.

I really agree on your points.  I think I've made similar comments here as well.  I've tried to point out that it was usually Beckerman or Bradely losing possession in the midfield that lead directly to defensive breakdowns.

So much flopping, it's like it's a Curtis Kelly tunnel dance in Chicago.

He pretty much went off on a tirade.
Notice how much he hated working with that other analyst who picked Argentina? Was pretty awkward to watch at times.

watching the goal highlights

Beckerman lost his man on the first, left Guzan 1v1
Beckerman lost Messi right before Wondo had to foul him
Berckerman allowed Messi to trot past him to make the pass to the side line which was the cross before the 3rd goal
4th goal was all Birnbaum passing the ball to Messi like he had money on the game.

I should really focus on Beckerman.  My bad people.

Hey I was on Beckerman before the others I bitched about.

It's just seeing a bit more replay, to see him consistently eff up makes him playing more glaring.

He's not worth getting too worked up about imo. Surely he has played in his last meaningful tournament. :dunno:

Real talk: Why did Wondo look like a corpse/heroin user? His eye sockets were troublesome.

I used to like Wondo because he kicked goals but Wood is much younger and better at this now.
