we are 3 points ahead of Costa Rica and play them on Wednesday. our goal differential is +13 and theirs is +3, so we'd have to lose 6-0 to finish below them.

Seems unsportsmanlike I’d guess. Also, if you’re gonna lose by 6 then you might as well save yourself the embarrassment of playing in the World Cup altogether.

i just heard today* that the US has never won a WCQ match in Costa Rica. the 4-0 loss last cycle was what cost Jurgen his job.
