Magical google agrees

Quote
Indeed, Trump’s great attention to industrial areas in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana - Mike Pence’s home state - and Wisconsin - where Hillary Clinton was conspicuously a no-show - are credited with tilting the scales in his favour, leading to a surprise victory in 2016.

During the election campaign, Trump had promised the “rust belt” (battered as all manner of industrial production has moved offshore, particularly to Asia) that he would use the tools of trade restrictions to create a climate for re-growth. So, with his announcement this past week that he would soon be imposing import tariffs on imports of steel (25%), and aluminum (10%), he was keeping one of many campaign promises, albeit the one that, arguably, got him elected.

His stance isn't surprising at all.  He has never held conservative views, other than when it's been politically convenient.  He's been very open about his brand of populist nationalism.

Sure, the "American first, rah rah" mantra has been there from the get go, but it doesn't make these economic ideas any less stupid.

"Banal troll" being the key phrase. There are about six boring, tired posters posting the same boring tired crap over and over in the pit.

Did not realize that foreign govs are massively subsidizing their VHS cassette industries. But if so, we should definitely slap a tariff on that obsolete technology.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

So has the Republican position on tariffs officially changed? Or is the party now just taking on their presidents approach of chaos theory to get things done?

the non-moderate republican position has changed to match whatever trump has said this week since he was elected. it's turned into a very fluid party.

I think the point could be that steel and alunimum are obsolete building materials.  :dunno:

It's a very strong analogy.

I know in the pseudo intellectual world of the Never Trumper, critical thinking is scant.

But it should be understood that the Chinese government has a trillion dollars in play for strategic capital and real estate acquisition around the globe.

Now we’re either going to wreck them like we did the Japanese in the 80’s with a sell high, buy back low scheme.  Or, they got that figured out and learned from that.

What at least partially funds this Trillion dollar plus war chest for acquisition?  Is it good that Chinese are buying up strategic assets around the globe?

I'm not sure what exactly you are talking about, but there are definitely loads of rich Chinese that will lose money buying up NYC/SF/Vancouver real estate, then yeah they will lose money.
