i think it's the winning at least 1 ncaa game 4 out of 5 years that got us thinking we were a competent b12 program.
to follow that up with 0 for 5 kinda stings
Post those thresholds again, I think it perfectly sums up how elite Franks tourney performance was relative to the competition. IIRC we are one year from going from elite tier to garbage tier.
if you want to use a 10 year span of tournament results to judge a program, maybe we can come up with some tiers
A++ tier (3+ final fours) 4 schools
A+ tier (2+ final fours) 11 schools
A tier (2+ elite eights) 21 schools
B+ tier (1+ final four) 23 schools
B tier (1+ elite eight) 34 schools
B tier (2+ sweet sixteens) 35 schools
C tier (1+ sweet sixteen) 59 schools
Trash tier (no sweet sixteens) no idea how many, probably a crap ton like 292 or something
the Trash tier could probably be split up into schools that have made the tournament at least X number of times, and schools that have not, but that's more work and it doesn't matter
i initially had messed up the number of B tier schools, so now i left 2 definitions of B tier (1+ elite 8, or 2+ sweet 16s)
specifically for the last decade, this means that all these schools are in the B tier:
2+ sweet 16s, no elite 8:
indiana, purdue, iowa state, miami, nc state, san diego state, stanford
1 sweet 16, 1 elite 8:
davidson, texas, missouri, pittsburgh, kansas state, dayton
