Alabama, the "the south" of the south

Looks like the Southen parts of the cracker belt quadrangle are well represented and there’s (edit) mid to deep orange right in the heart of the KC metro.

#blueanongE - Regionally ignorant but hyper provincialists none the less.

Every county I lived in the Southeast is mid to dark blue.

Sadly it looks like I just need to take a short drive in the KC metro and I’ll find myself in the light to darker orange #frown

The KC Metro - make sure you live in a white flight enclave #thumbsup

Do the boomers still living just walk around (scooter around is more accurate) like they are basically indestructible or does it go the other way and you get extremely scared of the world outside your gated senior living complex?

Gen X here so I can’t answer that.

What’s it like to not even understand (as usual) what’s even going on right outside your door Stalkerbot.7?

The country can only do so much. I'd bet that just about all of the mostly red states refused federal money to expand Medicaid.

Fixed: “Our country WILL only do so much.”

How about mandatory daily PE time and healthier lunches/snacks in schools? Or removal of harmful ingredients in processed foods. Or healthcare for all, or reasonable drug prices? You know, the stuff many other countries already do.

How many "red state" work mandate proposals were approved by the Federal Government?

Once upon a time a certain beloved #blueanon Presidential icon was lauded for his administrations work mandates.  Why have they fallen out of favor, now?

The people at the local level have to actually support those things for them to ever happen.

I don't disagree that the South has more prevalent health issues, but really?

The quadrangle has an average adult obesity rate of 35% to 37%.   Wichita, KCMO/KCKS, Omaha - Council Bluffs, Des Moines, St. Louis are rated as some of the most obese cities in these United States.

The heart of the KC Metro:  A southern life expectancy emulation

It's already posted in this thread.

In looking a little closer, I think one can reasonably claim that counties that comprise at least 4 major population centers in the quadrangle are light to dark orange.   :frown:

Agreed, but as you know, that graph also has a lot to do with poverty and access to medical care. It's probably pretty scary to set an appointment to have that persistent cough or gut ache checked out when you don't have insurance or can't afford to take time off from your hourly job.

You're hitting on some obvious points, but it's just super weird that axe grinding #blueanongE weirdos keep posting things like this in this thread, when it absolutely blows every level of ass right outside their front door in many instances.

Poorer people tend to live shorter lives than wealthier people.

I imagine poverty is correlated with shorter life expectancy wherever you are.
