Leavitt would be a fine hire.  He checks a lot of boxes.  It's not quite as sexy as Venables in my mind, but it'd be a fine hire nonetheless.

i agree and gun to my head i probably prefer venables, but it can't be overstated how much ass leavitt kicked at usf when he started from nothing.

Actually it is hilariously overstated considering the lack of actual ass he kicked at USF even after his program was an established part of the FBS.

A friend of mine who is an Arkansas grad and fan said this about Bielema.

I’m a little torn. I actually like him personally and think he has a good vision for building a program. However, I think he is an average recruiter, though may fare better in Big 12 given his ties to program and fact that Alabama, Auburn, LSU et al suck all of the oxygen in recruiting. My biggest knock has been his inability to make in-game adjustments, prepare his guys to play on Saturday, and develop the players he does get.

Your friend is kinda stupid if he is torn but thinks he can’t recruit to Arkansas, can’t make in-game adjustments, doesn’t prepare them to play on Saturday, and can’t develop the players he does get. If he thinks that Bret can do literally none of the things a HC is supposed to do he should be pretty pumped they’re moving on.

I think he has sort of a view similar to what some K-State fans had of Wooldridge. Of course, Bielema's "success" at Arkansas blows anything Wooly did out of the water.

But yeah, after I read his comments I'm not strongly against any thought of Bielema at K-State.

No idea why people think Leavitt was so successful at USF. In the 5 years he was in the Big East he had a sub-.500 conference record, and never finished better than t-3rd or ranked in the final AP poll.

I'm sure he could lead us to a couple of 7-6 seasons and maybe a Cactus Bowl win.
